Amazon filed an application for a trademark on “Free Meek.” If all goes according to plan and the trademark goes through, no other company will be able to use “Free Meek” or any phrase like it. The whole trademark process is fairly long, it normally takes six months, and many things can occur to disrupt the process or cause the trademark to not be allowed. For instance, once the possibility for a trademark is released to the public, people can oppose it, and get it “thrown out,” if they make a reasonable case.
This documentary series produced by Jay Z gives people more information about the injustice Meek Mill has faced throughout the years. Specifically, his decade long probation that came from a weapons and drug possession conviction. There has been much speculation about whether or not these charges are true, and even if they are true convictions, people argue that it is ridiculous he has been on probation for so long.
This is definitely a smart move by Amazon. Personally, I know so many people who have talked about Meek Mill’s situation, I have seen so many people talking about it on social media, etc. It is something millions of people want to know about. Amazon is going to capitalize off of this and they will be the only one’s able to use “Free Meek” and phrases like it. Meek’s life has been under a magnifying glass for a very long time, and now people will be able to see the day in the life of Meek Mill. I will most definitely be watching the docuseries because I really want to know what Meek Mill has had to deal with in his life. Also, especially with so many different streaming networks popping up, Amazon had to act fast otherwise some other company may have trademarked the name.
