After spending over a week here at University Park, there are several things I can take away from my experiences from the past couple of days. I had to learn my way around this massive campus and memorize the times the dining hall and other food places were open. It was helpful to follow a schedule every day and make to-do lists as I learned to balance different day to day tasks. Additionally, it felt strange not seeing my family every day as I learned to make new friends to interact with around here. I’m looking forward to befriending more people, learning new material in my classes, and finding ways to keep myself busy, like getting a job or joining a club.
However, during this past week, I have realized there are a few things that are making me anxious such as balancing school work and other work, maintaining a perfect attendance record during the summer session, and of course, getting good grades. Most importantly, a big anxiety is the transition from high school to college and adapting to the life of a college student. Now that I am in college, in order for me to be successful, I must try to manage my time better, eat healthy and stay active, and communicate with my professors/peers when I feel stuck.
My biggest “Why?” is to become the best version of myself little by little every day because it makes me happy. By learning more about myself, other people and their experiences, and even topics from my classes, I can takeaway important information and skill sets needed to achieve goals in life. Here at PSU, I want to eventually get involved in undergrad research, community service, and finding a career. For this summer, I want to get familiar to living on and getting around University Park, and adjust to the life of a college student, far away from home. For the first year, I want to work on time management and procrastinate less so I can succeed in my classes. I also want to join some clubs, find research opportunities, and/or start working so I can be more involved. I want to be able to take away crucial knowledge that will help me later in life and make life changing memories here at PSU for the next four years.
Most importantly, I want to be happy and satisfied with myself.
