Purpose:
The student is responsible for demonstrating current competency in previously completed courses, even though he or she had earned passing grades for those courses, before the start of the semester in those courses which need to be completed.
Policy:
All students who have failed or withdrew from a course and who return to repeat a course, must demonstrate competency in previous course material.
Procedures:
The student will be referred to the program coordinator for academic counseling after a student fails a course or who has to take a leave of absence. At that time, policies will be reviewed and the student options will be discussed with the student.
- If the student is eligible and plans on returning, request of leave of absence or that student will follow the procedure for re-enrolling into the PTA program.
- Once the student is deemed eligible for re-enrollment the student will be provided an information packet containing the expectations for the conditions of their re-enrollment. The student is required to sign and return the agreement prior to their approval for re-enrollment into the PTA program.
- The student must achieve a 75% or higher on comprehensive tests and practical exams in all previously completed PT courses.
- The program coordinator will outline all the skills competencies and written exams the student will be responsible to complete.
- A schedule will be provided by the program coordinator to the student. The student is expected to follow that schedule or notify the lab assistant immediately if there are any schedule conflicts.
- Material is to be reviewed by the student prior to scheduled review sessions. The student is expected to demonstrate competency during skill checkout with the corresponding course instructor. If the student is unsuccessful on the skill checkout, they will receive remediation and one more attempt. If the student is unsuccessful, they will be dismissed from the program and will not be able to return.
- The student is expected to pass the written exam earning at least a 75% for a maximum of 2 attempts.
- If the student is failing to complete the competencies according to schedule, the faculty member will notify the program coordinator.
- Failure to comply and completion of all exams and competencies will result in the student being dismissed from the program and will not be able to return.
