Highland Hall

For most of its history, Highland Hall was only a girls school. It was mainly populated by the daughters of rich families from Britain. Presidents, such as William Taft would visit the school as well.  Highland Hall also served as “24-hour radio operator training facility for the Women’s Army Corp, during World War II” (pawalkworks.com).

In later years, Highland Hall was being renovated and turned into a housing facility for seniors. “Builders aim to save portions of the historic building, with new construction making up the remainder of the housing facility” (Sauro). While renovations were not finished, there was an unfortunate matter. On July 26,2017, there was a fire atop of the roof of Historic Highland Hall. Fortunately, the fire was controlled. Renovations to the building have continued thereafter (Altoona Mirror).
