Did the Trojan War Really Happen?

In all Ancient Greek texts one stands out among the rest, The Iliad. Authored by Homer it has been a great source of information about Ancient Greek ways of life and beliefs. But with a story so fantastical, demigods, the involvement of many Gods, and grand plans such as the Trojan Horse, a question is raised. Did the Trojan War really happen? Were Achilles and his cohorts real people? Or is this all just a made up story used to entertain people?

For many year scholars have set out to answer those questions and the evidence they have compiled is not to be scoffed at but to be seriously considered. While no one can answer the question if Achilles, or any one else for that matter, did in fact live and breath the site of Troy has been discovered. In addition, many of the artifacts Homer describes in the Iliad were unheard of in his time but the exact items he describes have been found in archaeological digs that date to the Bronze Age. A boars tusk helmet? That was never seen in Homer’s time but he described it to a T in The Iliad and one was found at a Bronze Age Greek Dig.

While there is also a lack of evidence for the ten year siege in foreign records of that time the evidence these events did take place during the Bronze Age is overwhelming.
