Nestor’s Cup

Another artifact found by Henrich Schliemann in the Mycenaean shaft grave IV was a golden cup thought to have belonged to King Nestor. In Homer’s Iliad, King Nestor and his extravagant drinking cup is mentioned in book II. Schliemann had thought the cup belonged to the king because of an inscription carved into the bottom of the cup. The Inscription read “I am the cup of Nestor good for drinking. Whoever drinks from this cup desire for crowned Aphrodite will seize him instantly”(Faraone p. 78)
