Steps to Complete an Internship

Before you look for an internship, make sure you meet the requirements to register for the internship. The requirements can be found on the FAQ page. Once you meet those requirements, use the Internship Database that lists previous internships held by students. Students can search by various categories including paid/unpaid, nonprofit, and industry specific. If you are interested in a virtual internship, please speak with your internship coordinator.  Log in to the Nittany Lion Career Network sponsored by Career Services. Speak with a career counselor either through Career Services or World Campus Career Services. Network with faculty, family and friends. Attend Penn State’s Career Days (fall and spring) to find internship and full time positions.

Students will fill out the Internship Work Plan for approval prior to registering for HPA 395, the internship course.  For full usage of Sites, please log in using your PSU ID and password.  You will be asked to complete objectives as part of the Internship Work Plan.  It is advised to speak with your preceptor over the phone, in person, or through email to discuss your objectives.  Have your preceptor fill out the Preceptor Qualifications Form at the same time.

Once your internship is approved, you are permitted to register for the Internship Course (HPA 395). You MUST register for the internship course at the campus you intend to graduate from. Please read through the internship manual prior to the start of your internship. The internship can be completed either full-time throughout one semester or part-time throughout two consecutive semesters at the same location. Hours required for the internship are 320.
