Luis and Aaron’s Blog Day 9

We visited Husqvarna, one of the top innovating and oldest companies in Sweden. When they first started as a company, they sold rifles, household items, and even got into the stock market. Today, they mainly manufacture lawn care goods such as automated robots that cut grass. They are small, but they save time and money. We went in to see their manufacturing line and it was amazing. Their production lines was so efficient and so advanced. Far beyond, anything I have ever seen in a manufacturing company. Most of their products were produced by robots that got the parts done in just minutes. Compared to hours or even days before this automation. I could not help but think that robotics might replace jobs at a faster rate than we can keep up with. Most of their workers there now could really be replaced if they wanted to, but they still are having trouble finding workers to fill the technical positions. The technical positions do not add up the amount of blue collar positions that will be gone. Most people will not be able to get the technical skills needed to advance in the workplace, and I see this as a problem all over. In the United States, we are having trouble filling technical positions as well, because not enough people are qualified to do these jobs yet. Technology is growing at such a fast rate that it is replacing jobs faster than it can it can actually replace. Husqvarna said they were looking for around one hundred people to fill their technical positions and they were having trouble finding it. After we left Husqvarna, we had the chance to present to some Swedish students what we learned while there. It was a great experience being able to share what we thought, and getting feedback.
