If you are on this blog, you are more than a little curious about hybrid learning. You may be asking yourself, how is the best way I can author a hybrid learning course for my students? You have come to the right place, as this site includes best practices, resources and considerations faculty need to keep in mind when deciding to implement a hybrid learning course at Penn State. Along with the resources featured on this site, another place to find more information is from Pathways to Pedagogy, which helps faculty match pedagogical needs to educational technology tools.
The tools included on Pathways to Pedagogy provide instructors with technological means to conduct their classes, and are especially useful to Penn State faculty and designers who are working on courses to be taught in the new Remote Synchronous modalities. In Remote Blended mode, the class meets 100% remotely with a hybrid of asynchronous and synchronous instruction. An instructor looking to provide classroom community in a remote hybrid setting can visit Pathways to Pedagogy and discover that quite a few PSU supported tools, such as Top Hat or Perusall can provide such community to students through technology.
Hybrid learning models continue to serve Penn State students by providing choices in how educational content is received. Students may choose to attend traditional in-person courses or opt for one of the new remote modalities offered by the University beginning this Fall semester. If you are interested in developing a Remote Synchronous course, consider meeting with an instructional designer to ensure that the highest quality instruction is provided to your students!
