This is not really a bucket list blog, but only because I didn’t do anything off my bucket list this week sadly! Since I didn’t do anything from my bucket list I thought I would share something new I am dong this week. Eating sushi. Now this is not an unusual thing for most people because a lot of people like sushi and seafood, but I literally hate seafood. I have tried fish, shrimp, sushi, salmon, and so much more while growing up because my mom would always make me try it just incase I liked it. I just never did. The only seafood I would eat is salmon, but only if it is cooked a certain way by my step dad or uncle. I never liked sushi before, and then on Monday I tried the Philadelphia Roll from the east market and I didn’t hate it.
The first bite I took went exactly like how all the other times I tried sushi went. I immediately gagged from the fishy taste and wanted to spit it out, but I didn’t because I wanted to just see if I could eat it. Then I tried another bite with soy sauce, and that helped diminish the fish taste a lot. I had 2 more, but then the 4th piece I had I took the salmon out… oops.
The next day I woke up, and oddly had a craving for sushi. I have never had that before so it was honestly very strange. I went to the market and bought another pack of sushi, but I don’t know the name of it. It has salmon and avocado in it and some sauce over it. I brought it back to my dorm and ate it, with soy sauce of course because without it I probably would have gagged again. I ate half of them with the salmon in it, and then for the other half of them I took the salmon out. I then called my mom and told her how I ate sushi again, and how weird it was that I was eating it because the day before when I first ate it I texted her and her response made me laugh! I will put a picture of the text messages!
I don’t know what changed, but for some reason now I like sushi. Okay, only sushi with salmon. I cannot have it with tuna or crab. This week I have had sushi 5 times and that is so odd to me since I would never eat it before. I might try it with tuna one day sometime soon, but not yet… baby steps. If you are tempted to try something you used to dislike… do it! I am pleasantly surprised with the outcome of how this turned out!
Hi Izabel!
I am SO glad that you enjoyed the sushi! I used to think it was so gross until I had my first bite of a California roll and ever since I have been obsessed! I have been starting to get the ones with raw tuna inside and I actually really like them. I am excited to go home and eat the sushi in my town because its much better than the sushi here at State!
