The Andes Lidar Observatory

The Andes Lidar Observatory (ALO) is located in Chile at the Cerro Pachon Mountain (30.3S, 70.7W). The environmental dryness of the observation site makes it perfect for optical observations, allowing ~300 days/year of clear skies, which is twice as much than any other optical observatory of the same category. ALO is equipped with several instruments suitable for our studies.

The ALO has airglow imagers, a Na resonant lidar, and a meteor radar. Other co-located scientific devices at ALO are a multichannel photometer, a Mesosphere Temperature Mapper, two Aerospace infrared cameras, and a GPS sensor.
