My first idea for my passion blog is, of course, related to Taylor Swift. Since she has ten albums and there are ten blogging weeks, I plan to analyze each album and its overall impact and message. This includes breaking down her lyricism, which is widely considered her greatest strength as an artist, but also the production, visuals/music videos, and publicity attached to each album. In addition to identifying what I think are the highlights and shortfalls of each album, I hope to pick a thesis that summarizes the record and dig beneath the surface level lyrics in order to debunk the myth that she only writes about her ex-boyfriends.
Another idea that I had was to attend a different event that is offered on campus each week in order to create a kind of guide about life at Penn State. This could include popular events like football games but also watching performances put on by theatre groups and eating at restaurants downtown that I’ve never heard of before. Basically, it would include all of the opportunities that I wish I knew about right now, and as a bonus, it would push me to get out of my comfort zone.
I love both of your ideas however I think your second idea is super interesting. Many students at Pen State could benefit from reading bout the opportunities available at PSU. Especially, Freshman who may not have the clearest outlook on what activities to attend.
Personally, I love the Taylor Swift idea, but then again I might be a bit biased. I think the analysis of her lyrics could make for an interesting read as well as allow for you to dive into some deeper topics, and maybe even some common places, as her lyrics definitely have a global chokehold on everyone. She is a quotable queen and therefore like the true mother she represents, has a ton of life lessons in her lyrics that I know you could skillfully unpack. The second Idea also allows for an interesting read but in my humble opinion, nothing beats Taylor.
I love both of your ideas, but I really like your first idea a lot. I really love learning about the backstories behind Taylor’s songs, and I feel like there’s always more to unpack within each song, which is a crazy talent. She has just been an incredible song writer, who makes her music really great conversation starters. That’s not to hate on your second idea, I also love learning about Penn State culture/events that are happening on campus. Either one would be great!
These are two really great ideas. Our class seems to have a particular interest in Taylor Swift, so a blog involving her in any way would surely be a favorite. However, I personally like your second idea a little more. I think this way because you are helping others find things to do or places to go while also broadening your horizons and learning more about your area. No shade to Taylor just think your second idea is really great!
I was never a huge fan of Taylor Swift and I only know her “most famous” songs. I believe your passion blog in analyzing Taylor Swift would be great for me to learn more about her, especially when almost the entire class is a fan of her. As for the blog where you are going to attend for different Penn State events and eat in different restaurants in downtown, I think it would be amazing for everyone, especially freshmen. I can’t wait to see your blogs in the near future.
