  1. 1. I think many recognize that colors aren’t as synonymous with gender anymore, but this change is not something that’s easy to quantify, so research about would give me and others a much better understanding of how things shifted.
    2. You could look at prominent voices who discussed gender and color and how that manifested itself it media and as well as the toy market.
    3. A potential sub topic could be how pink and blue became symbolic of one gender or another. In the early 20th century, the two colors were actually flipped in terms of the gender they belonged to.
    4. I think our changes in clothes and colors having gender is probably from changes in parenting styles and parents being generally more accepting in the modern day.

  2. 1.) I’m really curious on how pink specifically has become the feminine color. As a man who loves pink, and was always told by others that my favorite color should be blue, this topic really gets my attention.

2.) I said this in the previous point, but I think you could do some really great research on how these gender stereotypes emerge in culture, and specifically how pink became associated with femininity. I think you could do some great research on how these stereotypes can start to influence the psychology of individuals and their political/social views.

3.) I think you hit on every sub-topic I could think of, “the second-wave of feminism” and “fashion, politics, and media.” While it’s definitely a lot to tackle, I can see you being really successful in corresponding these things all together to show all toxic this way of thinking is.

4.) I think this talk correlates to practices, the way a society portrays harmful gender stereotypes and simplifies something that cannot be simplified.

  3. 1. I’ve only done a bit of research into the symbolic nature of colors, but I’ve never analyzed the association with gender and colors, even though I recognize that there is a connection between them that has been established. I look forward to learning more about how cultural perspectives have shifted when it comes to this.
    2. You mentioned some great areas (ex. fashion and media) that you want to research, but you could narrow down even more within those, like are you going to solely look at color in film and television or are going to look at in literature or other arts. There are plenty of different resources that you could use for this topic, whether they be more scholarly papers or informal uses of color in fashion and what that means.
    3. I feel like you already have a really good subtopic for the second wave of feminism. You seem to know what you want to research, and I think that that topic would be phenomenal to read/hear about.
    4. This topic is probably more associated with practices, like the use of pink for girls and blue for boys. You could analyze how these practices have evolved over time, and if you wanted to bring in the technology aspect that is also asked in this question, you can look at how these practices might be affected by the internet.
