IllumiNATION is a student-focused, campus-wide, art-based festival & parade that will include lantern-making and other illuminated object workshops throughout the year. We are partnering with the EcoReps and the Sustainability Institute to hold the parade and festival during Earth Hour, on March 28th, 2020. We have intentionally aligned this parade with Earth Hour, a worldwide lights-out event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature intended to raise awareness about the effects of our excessive energy consumption on the environment in order to showcase the trans formative power of the arts and unite the Penn State community around a common goal.
Our Mission: IllumiNATION aims to create a unified Penn State community, full of responsible and inclusive citizens of the world by encouraging creativity, practicing sustainability, and providing a welcoming and inclusive environment for all with our illuminated object workshops and parade.
- To unite Penn State students as a community through the arts. We hope to act as a catalyst for place-making and connection for students throughout their Penn State journey.
- To bridge the gap between international and domestic students. We are interested in exploring how other cultures use and understand light, especially in celebration.
- To spark conversations about sustainability and shed light on the issues surrounding climate change. We recognize that we are all part of a global community and wish to encourage students to better not only their local community but to act as citizens of the world.
