Kristin Hommel is a rising 3L and a first-generation law student. Prior to law school,
Kristin obtained her undergraduate degrees from North Carolina State University in
International Relations and French Language & Literature.
Following completion of her undergraduate degree programs, Kristin lived and taught
English in France for a year through the Teaching Assistantship Program in France (TAPIF).
She has since become passionate about immigration and founded both the
Immigration Law Society (ILS) and Immigration Law Blog at Penn State Law. Kristin is also active
in her journal and other school organizations, serving as President of the ILS, Editor-in-Chief of
the Immigration Law Blog, Managing Editor of Digital Content for the Journal of Law and
International Affairs, Law School Delegate for the Graduate and Professional Student Association
(GPSA), and is a former Civil Procedure Teaching Assistant. She hopes to someday facilitate the
transformation of the Immigration Law Blog into Penn State’s first Immigration Law Journal.
Previously, Kristin has interned with The Immigration Project and Immigration and Customs
Enforcement (ICE) and worked with the Penn State Law Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic.
She has been fortunate enough to have had the opportunities to work in a variety of immigration
contexts, both before and during her law school experience. Prior to beginning law school,
Kristin worked as a Business Immigration Paralegal for two years at the global immigration firm,
Ogletree Deakins, and for one year at Global Immigration Associates. Throughout law school, she
has interned for The Immigration Project doing humanitarian immigration work, the Penn State
Law Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic doing removal defense and asylum petitions, and within
ICE in the Immigration Law and Practice Division (ILPD) conducting research on novel immigration
topics to advise field offices. This summer, Kristin is thrilled to be Summering at The Galati Law Firm
as a Summer Associate learning the nuances and complexities of EB-5 Investor Visas and federal
immigration litigation practice!
During the fall of her 3L year, Kristin will be externing full-time with Kurzban, Kurzban, Tetzeli, and
Pratt in Miami, Florida, learning about the complexities of federal immigration litigation under the
expert tutelage of the legendary Ira Kurzban. In her (very limited!) free time, Kristin enjoys hiking,
taking on Spartan Races, deciphering Taylor Swift lyrics, writing poetry, and refurbishing old furniture.
