Julia Stevens is a rising 2L at Penn State Law. Prior to attending law school, Julia earned her bachelor’s degrees in French Language and Russian Language and Culture from Bucknell University. After teaching French and Spanish for a year, Julia traveled to Cyprus to teach English on a Fulbright English Teaching Assistant grant.
While in Cyprus, Julia had the opportunity to work alongside the U.S. Embassy in Nicosia to promote educational exchange programs and to help the embassy engage better with the local community. It was during that time in Cyprus that Julia first became aware of the complexities of immigration law, as members of the community would frequently come to her with questions about obtaining visas due to her association with the embassy. Julia quickly realized that when she began law school in the fall of 2023, she wanted to get involved with the immigration law community at PSL.
As a 1L, Julia joined the Immigration Law Society, for which she will serve as treasurer this year, and volunteered as a French interpreter for the Penn State Law Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic. Julia’s decision to commit herself to the immigration field was solidified when she witnessed the process of the students at the Center for Immigrants’ Rights Clinic obtaining asylum for a client, for whom she was the interpreter.
At Penn State Law, Julia also serves as co-president of the Animal Legal Defense Fund. Outside of school, you’ll often find her walking a nature trail or with a fantasy book in hand.
