The act of communication has undergone many paradigmatic shifts throughout the course of history. Humans have moved from communicating through fire signals to sending secretive morse codes. From faxing information from one office to another, to sending electronic mail in less than a second. At the time of their existence, these methods of communication have altered society. They impacted the old ways of previous generations and made a new path for future generations.
This topic could work for our ‘Paradigm Shift’ assignment because variations of communication sparked evolutionary change in thinking in our society. With the help of the internet, a catalyst for this paradigmatic shift, which is ‘the first technology of its kind to achieve global scope’ communication has been changed in multiple societies forever.
In order to make this argument, I will pick one point in time – prior to the development of the internet – and show how people communicated with others then. What were the main ways of communication, and how did it affect their society (in terms of social life). After I have developed that baseline, I will fast forward to current times and highlight the main methods of communication of today. I will discuss how the Internet has impacted this generation. I will then conclude with the idea that the Internet has open doors that we have yet to walk through. So what is in store for our future?
