Who we are
The Society for Industrial Biotechnology (SIB) is a diverse group of undergraduate students who are interested in biotechnology. Our goal is to form an organization comprised of members from a variety of fields, including (but not limited to) chemical engineering, biological engineering, biology, molecular biology, and other related disciplines. We are passionate about this industry, and believe that we can better impact it by coming together as a group.
What we do
We support the initiatives of both the Center of Excellence in Industrial Biotechnology and the CSL Behring Fermentation Facility. This includes educating members on techniques within the industrial biotechnology industry, as well as supporting any initiatives our members are passionate about. We will be offering unique opportunities to hear from industry professionals, students that have completed work in the field, and university faculty.
Where we do it
We hope that SIB’s reach will be nationwide; while we are still a new organization with our location limited to campus, we hope to be able to go to industry facilities as interest grows.
Why we do it
The CSL Behring gift helped to kick start the Penn State biotechnology initiative. We founded SIB as a need for a way to get more undergraduate students involved. SIB’s mission is to create a nurturing environment for students interested in biotechnology, to grow and thrive both as individuals and a team.
