Rediscovering Labor’s History

The digital project Beneath the Surface and Cast in Steel: Forging the American Industrial Union Movement provides researchers unprecedented access to Pennsylvania State University’s extensive collection of primary sources related the history of industrial unionism in the United States. This website aims to create a framework for researchers, students, and the general public interested in learning more about the workers and organizers whose struggles have been rediscovered in the course of digitizing these unique resources. Yet, this web site only represents a fraction of the full collections. Those interested in exploring the entirety of these materials and uncovering their own histories of the labor movement should visit the Penn State Digital Collections website or the About the Collections site page to learn more.
