Fellowship and Internships
IAEA Marie Sklowdowska-Curie Fellowship Programme: “Named after pioneer physicist and Nobel Prize laureate Marie Skłodowska-Curie, the Programme aims to inspire and to encourage young women to pursue a career in nuclear sciences and technology and non-proliferation studies by providing highly motivated and talented female students scholarships for graduate degree programmes along with IAEA internship opportunities.In the long term, the Programme will contribute to a new generation of female STEM leaders, who will drive scientific and technological developments in their countries.”
Pacific Northwest National Laboratory Safeguards Internship: “The Safeguards Internship Program is one of a wide range of student opportunities offered at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. PNNL is seeking several ambitious, high-caliber students for a flexible internship. Students with a background in policy will gain a basic technical understanding to complement their policy experience, while more technically-focused students will gain insight into the policies that impact their technical work.”
Nuclear Nonproliferation & International Safeguards Fellowship: “This fellowship provides financial support for exceptional students pursuing technical doctoral research relevant to the field of international safeguards. Participating universities foster partnerships between science/engineering programs and programs focused on nuclear nonproliferation and safeguards policy. Armed with both deep technical expertise and policy understanding, NNIS Fellows are primed to take on the exciting and challenging work of international nuclear safeguards.”
NNSA Graduate Fellowship Program: “The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) Graduate Fellowship Program (NGFP) identifies and develops the next generation of exceptional national security leaders to achieve the NNSA mission: Strengthening our nation through nuclear security.”
Nuclear Threat Initiative (NTI) Internship: The NIT internship provides “exciting opportunities to work on projects that make lasting contributions to reducing threats of weapons of mass destruction and disruption (WMDD), with an emphasis on nuclear, radiological, and biological risks, as well as related risks associated with advances in technology.”
Additional Opportunities
Washington Nuclear Engineering Student Delegation (NESD): NESD is a delegation of nuclear engineering that visits Washington, D.C. each summer to “discuss the issues facing nuclear energy, policy, education, and research with key policymakers.”
International Nuclear Facilities Experience: “The International Nuclear Facilities Experience (INFE) is as a unique opportunity for graduate students from U.S. universities and early career professional from U.S. national laboratories to visit nuclear fuel cycle facilities in other countries and discuss applied safeguards and security measures with actual practitioners and facility operators. Participants can see first-hand how safeguards are implemented at various types of facilities, while networking with their peers around the U.S. and experiencing travel to a foreign country.”
