We are thrilled to announce the Inaugural Inter-Institutional Program for Diversifying Research Leadership Summit, marking the beginning of a transformative journey in research collaboration and diversity. The Inter-Institutional Program for Diversifying Research is not just an initiative—it is a shared commitment to building lasting, impactful partnerships between Penn State’s Interdisciplinary Research Institutes under the Office of the Senior Vice-President for Research and in collaboration with Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs).

At the heart of the IPDR is a deep commitment to fostering true and equitable research partnerships between Penn State and Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs). We recognize that innovation thrives when diverse perspectives come together, and our MSI partners bring invaluable insights, expertise, and cultural richness essential to pushing the boundaries of research. These collaborations are not just about joining forces; they are about co-creating solutions and advancing knowledge in ways that neither institution could achieve alone. By working together with our MSI partners, we are building towards a research ecosystem where every voice is heard, every idea is valued, and together, we can tackle the most pressing challenges of our time. This Summit celebrates and reinforces our shared commitment to advancing research that is as inclusive as it is groundbreaking.

We have designed this event to provide a welcoming space where funded faculty can share their exciting, ongoing research and openly discuss the joys and challenges of building sustainable, fruitful collaborations. Here, you’ll find opportunities to:

Hear from IPDR awardees: Be inspired by faculty as they present their progress, share what has worked well, and candidly discuss the obstacles they’ve faced in their collaborative efforts.

Exchange ideas & best practices: Engage in meaningful discussions to exchange strategies, share what has been successful, and brainstorm solutions for overcoming persistent challenges in sustaining these vital partnerships.

We know that these conversations are critical in shaping the future of research development, and we want you to be part of this journey—whether in person or virtually. However, please note that due to space limitations, in-person attendance is limited, and we encourage you to secure your spot as soon as possible.

Event Highlights:

  • Five-minute presentations: Discover the groundbreaking interdisciplinary research supported by the IPDR
  • Networking opportunities: Connect with peers and leadership who are equally passionate about fostering diversity and interdisciplinary research
  • Dinner reception: Celebrate the day’s achievements with an hour of hot food, good drinks, great conversation, and new connections

We are also excited to support the travel of faculty collaborators from our IPDR partner MSIs, ensuring that their voices and perspectives enrich our discussions. You may find this year’s travel awardees and their sponsoring Institutes HERE.

This is your chance to be part of something truly special. Register here to join us at the forefront of research innovation and diversity.

Virtual Attendance: If you can’t join us in person, we warmly invite you to participate via Zoom (no prior registration needed).

On behalf of the seven Penn State Interdisciplinary Institutes supporting this initiative—the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences, the Social Science Research Institute, the Materials Research Institute, the Institute of Energy and the Environment, the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the Cancer Institute—we look forward to welcoming you to a day filled with inspiration, collaboration, and community.

This event is sponsored by Penn State’s Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences.
