Internet Resource Guide On How to Use Penn State Library Resources as an Engineering Student

Paterno Reading Room | Penn State University Libraries

What’s in this guide?

This guide is a compilation of quintessential library resources for engineering students. After using this guide, both undergraduate and graduate students will be able to use these resources for a variety of purposes, most commonly to reserve study rooms, borrow and renew material, rent out technology or equipment, use the Interlibrary Loan System (ILL), or even to ask for help. Many of the resources provided below are essential to a strong understanding of class materials and ultimately help those achieve a good grade.

Who is this for?

This internet resource guide was created to aid undergraduate and graduate students within the Penn State College of Engineering. Many of the resources provided are for students at Penn State who are looking to make use of the resources and services offered by the library. This could include both undergraduate and graduate students studying a range of engineering disciplines, such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, aerospace engineering, and more. Additionally, faculty members or researchers in the engineering field may be interested in learning about the resources and services available through Penn State Libraries.

If you are…

This internet resource guide was created under the assumptions that you are a Penn State engineering student, have access to an internet connection, are moderately computer savvy, and have limited knowledge of the PSU library resources. Students taking engineering course requirements will find this guide helpful because knowing how to use the libraries on campus and their resources will come in handy for research, projects, homework, and studying in general.

How is this site organized?

This internet resource guide provides information about six different library resources. These are organized from reserving study spaces, borrowing and renewing, renting technology and equipment, information about the Engineering Library, using the Interlibrary Loan, to asking a librarian questions. Each specific library source includes a link to the website, an abstract, and a few tips for using the site. There is a table of contents located at the top of the home page and a dropdown menu for services provided.

Who is the author?

This internet resource guide was created by Conor Dowdell, Aerospace Engineer, PSU class of 2024. Here is a quick note from Conor: “As an aerospace engineering undergraduate student, I wish I knew about all of the resources that Penn State Libraries offered me. To this day, I still use the study spaces to study, work on homework, or to just get away to a quiet place. I hope you find this guide helpful!”
