Why We Should Appreciate Every Moment an Athlete Steps on the Floor?

I know I have talked about and compared the importance of health and entertainment a few blogs prior, but I would want to mention more on health this week. Throughout the past month, (if you watch NFL) I am sure everyone is bombarded with a crazy offseason where we see similar faces in jerseys that we never expected them to be in, but (unfortunately) we are forced to see two of the greatest player to step of the court, Jason Kelce and Aaron Donald. Therefore, it just got me to think how much we should appreciate every moment a player steps on the floor (even if they are having a bad game).

Being an athlete is never easy and being a professional athlete is certainly one of the toughest job that you can ever find in the world. Not only could injury come at you every second, hackling and hatred spawns right in front of you the moment you performed poorly. I am sure if you are a sport fan, you surely want your favorite player to succeed or your favorite team to win the championship. Therefore, when you see someone that is doing poorly, you will be angry at them. Or when you are playing against an insanely spectacular player from the opposite team, you will want them to do bad or even want them to get injured. However, we often forget to appreciate everything that they have done to the league, to the sports, and to the world.

Personally (as a Golden State Warriors and a Stephen Curry fan), I do not like LeBron James and (as a matter of fact) I am a prime hater on LeBron James. I always neglect every great accomplishment that he had done by speaking out his failures and I always pray for his downfall. I am sure I am not the only one that do something similar, but as I get more mature, I understand the fact that instead of hating on a player and praying on their downfall, we should appreciate them more and how much they have changed the game. As a personal experience, I think everything is more enjoyable ever since I started to appreciate the players more than hating on them. It is undeniable that LeBron James has revolutionized the game of basketball and has dominated it. However, it might be LeBron James last season anytime soon and we should value every single moment that we have.

I am sure everyone knows Kobe Bryant who was sadly taken away from us through a helicopter crash. In just a blink of a moment, his life is taken away from us and we could never see him ever again, talking about his accomplishments, aspiring children, and more. A closer example would be Aaron Rogers (QB for New York Jets) got injured in his first ever drive as a Jets.

Everything can take a turn in a blink of a second and everything can be taken away from us. Therefore, while I am trying to talk about how we should appreciate every athlete when they steps on the floor, I would hope you can remember this in your life. “Appreciate more, Complain less, Value every single moment you have in your life, and do not ever waste ‘today’.” I hope if you are struggling in life recently or you have a goal that you want to accomplish, you will keep on going for it and trying it for it because you have no clue what could happen in the next second.

  1. This was a really inspirational post! I think often in our lives we forget to cherish things and be grateful that we are experiencing them, especially with sports. I think a lot of people get so wrapped up in their lives and forget to appreciate everything they have.

  2. As someone who played sports in high school and knew a lot of people who suffered from severe, season-ending injuries, the message within this post is extremely important and applicable to essentially every area of life, as we should always value our time and the time that others devote to things. I like how you mentioned that sometimes we focus too much on the good times athletes have on the field, or the bad times, but that we should have more of a balance and view all of their experiences as a part of our interpretation of them, that is a good way to look at many things in life.
