In my last Civic Issue blog I did an introduction on my topic of Greek Life. I gave you all a summary of what I will be discussing and started to talk about my friends experience with rushing a sorority. In this blog i want to talk about Fraternities and some of the dangers that are hidden behind closed doors.

Before I got on this topic I would like to mention how I am fully aware of how both men and women are at risk of sexual assault or harassment. However in this case I want to talk about the dangers that I notice at Penn State with fraternities and women.

Most girls before they leave for college get the same lecture, “don’t put your cup down, “never go out alone”, “Don’t accept drinks from strangers” etc. I personally have had this lecture time and time again. However I like most people think to themselves, ” I know I’m not stupid”. But this does not matter. For instance just a couple weeks ago this girl was sexually assaulted by multiple frat brothers. The school sent out a warning text to the school and told people that it was under investigation. This was weeks ago and we no one has said a thing since.

Greek Life as a whole make Penn State a lot of money. They not only are a large portion of our alumni but started one of our biggest accomplishments, THON.
