Iranian Student Association (ISA) is a non-religious and non-political organization with the following goals:
- To provide an interactive environment for students of Iranian heritage at Penn State.
- To offer social and cultural programs intended to familiarize the University community with Iranian traditions.
ISA organizes several events each year among which Noe-Rooz (the Persian New Year) is the largest and most important one. Noe-Rooz begins at the time of the spring equinox in the northern hemisphere, and ISA usually holds its Noe-Rooz event in late March. Yalda Night is another yearly event which is held on the longest night of the year. In addition to these two major events, ISA holds several other events, including parties, picnics, outdoor and sport activities. For more information about recent or upcoming ISA events, please visit other links.
ISA was founded in 1996 with only 8 active members. Its membership grew to about 20 in 2002. Over the past decade, the number of Iranian students at Penn State has increased substantially. Currently, ISA has more than 15 active members who are mostly graduate students. For the most recent list of active members you may refer to here. Throughout these years, ISA has been fortunate to benefit from significant support from a growing number of associate members including Penn State faculty, staff, alumni, and Iranian locals. Community support has been instrumental in the rapid growth of ISA and the successful execution of its programs.
