Dear Friends,

Iranian Student Association(ISA) at Penn State University is once again proud to present Norooz Gala held on March 16th. As you must know, Norooz is perhaps the most ancient Iranian tradition that celebrates the first day of Spring that is also the Iranian new year’s eve. Thus, the Norooz Gala is held every year by ISA at Penn State is not only the most prestigious event of the year, but it is one of the largest and most famous ones in the US. The night will include different performances such as Azari dance, a performance of one of the best Persian dance group in the US, comedian and live concert by 25Band. We are guaranteeing you the best times on the dance floor and of course delicious Iranian dishes including Ghormesabzi, Gheyme, Koobideh kabab, Kashk-o-Bademjan and many more, so come full of energy but hungry!

We will assign tables based on first come first serve when you buy tickets.

Student: $35
General ticket: $60
Children under 6: Free

We will be selling tickets on the following occasions:
-Tuesday, February 26, HUB-Robeson Center, information table #3, 2:00-5:00 PM
-Wednesday, February 27, HUB-Robeson Center, information table #5, 2:00-5:00 PM
-Thursday, February 28, HUB-Robeson Center, information table #4, 2:00-5:00 PM
-Friday, March 1, HUB-Robeson Center, information table #3, 2:00-5:00 PM

If you are not in State College, please ask your friends here to buy tickets on behalf of you (they should have your name and University email address), otherwise feel free to email us at psu.isa@gmail.com, we will help you with.

We also need some volunteer to give us a hand before, during or after the event. So, if you are interested in, feel out the following sheet with your information.

Blue and White Saffron Award

ISA is proud to announce its first annual Blue and White Saffron Award. Since its inception in 1996, the Iranian Student Association at Penn State (ISA) has been steadily growing thanks to its members’ involvement and support. The strength and livelihood of ISA depends on volunteers who devote their time, energy, creativity and enthusiasm to this organization. The purpose of this award is to recognize and honor individuals with outstanding service contributions to ISA.

Nomination and Selection Criteria

We invite our members to go to this link and nominate person(s) whom they believe have had positive and significant impact on ISA. The ISA board will review all candidates and select the award recipient based on the following criteria:

  • Significance of service to ISA and Iranian community
  • Service ‘above and beyond’ the norm, through effort and/or impact
  • Generally over a significant period of time
  • The approximate number of persons benefitted by the contribution(s) and how
  • The novelty of ideas/contributions to ISA
  • Credibility with ISA members and community
  • Highest ethical standards; sets an example

Award Announcement and Prize

The Blue and White Saffron Award winner will be announced during ISA Norooz Gala and receive $300 monetary prize and the engraved memento of recognition.

Deadline and Eligibility

Members can make nominations until 11:59 PM Sunday February 18th, 2018.

We welcome everyone to nominate or be nominated for the award. This includes (but not limited to) past and present Penn State students, faculty, staff, their dependents, State College community of Iranian or non-Iranian descendent. Current ISA officers, creator of the award, sponsors and their immediate family members are allowed to nominate candidates but are not eligible to be nominated for the award.
