about ISEA

International Scientists and Engineers Association

Introduction

This organization is planned and established for the benefits of international students, especially lower classmen, of either science or engineering majors. The present clubs in Penn State often do not provide or focus on academic information, which is really crucial and necessary for international students to successfully survive in the University with English as their second language. Providing programs listed below would help not only international freshmen but also all the international students studying in PSU with sea of diverse sources.

Planned Programs

  • Info Sessions

– Major Introducing Orientations

Sessions are held BY heads of majors during the club meeting for first 4 weeks about general covering on major, specific division of the major, professors, “survival tip”, future field, etc. (mainly for freshmen).

– Seminars

Guest speakers from real / desired industries; mostly this info session is for internship, research, and co-op. This part is important because for most of the recommendations or application-related mails we get from the department has the very first condition as “resident / one who holds U.S. citizenship”. Information and available application given from this session definitely are the ones that give international students opportunities to build experience in the field they are studying.

  • MnM (Mentor & Mentee)

Club executives and heads of majors become the bridge and connects every member of club to certain / desired alumni, present students of Penn State, professor, graduates (similar to having more than one academic advisor) (for everyone’s benefit).

Organization Hierarchy (Simplified)

HIERARCHY

The composition of the club will be divided into 4 types of group.

  1. Executive (dealing with general, big issues + organizing +managing, major role as seeker and provider for residential life etc. -related info)
  2. Head of majors (=mainly seeker and provider; mainly finding major/ academic-related info and distributing it during the info sessions)
  3. Senior Adviser (literally, adviser. Mostly juniors or seniors. Minor info seeker and provider, more direct interact with members (especially freshmen)
