Tour description

CONSOL’s Pennsylvania Mining Complex, located in Greene and Washington counties, is the largest underground coal mine complex in North America. Consisting of the Bailey, Enlow Fork and Harvey mines, along with the central preparation plant and train loadout facility. It is among the safest and most productive complexes in the world. CONSOL also operates the Maryland based Baltimore Marine Terminal, where coal is shipped internationally, and a 4th mine (Itman Mine) located in southern West Virginia. Our 4th mine produces metallurgical coal.

The Preparation Plant washes and processes up to 8,200 tons of coal per hour, and consists of Nine (9) raw coal silos with aggregate storage capacity of 153,000 tons, Six (6) clean coal silos with an aggregate storage capacity of 132,500 tons, and an onsite logistics infrastructure that includes a dual-batch train loadout facility that operations 24/7. The loadout facility loads up to 9,000 tons of coal per hour and ten-unit trains per day (highest capacity in the east). 19.3 miles of onsite train track accommodates multiple unit trains for increased efficiency. Onsite coal handling facilities can blend coal to suit customers specifications and incorporates coal quality monitoring systems to analyze coal quality as rail cars are loaded.

The plant is one of the largest and most advanced operations in North America. The Tour guests will see all aspects of the plant operations (from feed conveyor systems, control systems, coal processing, cleaning, coal quality monitoring systems, and train loadout).
