Sony’s Project Morpheus

At the 2014 Game Developers Conference, Sony announced their new virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus. This headset, that will be compatible with the PlayStation 4, will join Oculus VR and its headset for PCs.

To add innovation to this headset, Sony has incorporated a never before seen bike demo. By adding sensor to either a stationary bike or even a workable bike, the bike will be able to wireless communicate with the headset. This could potentially help America’s struggle with obesity, which the Nintendo Wii failed accomplish.

Another feature that Sony added is the social screening feature. This feature allows whatever is being seen inside the headset to be displayed on the television so other people can follow along.

The following are other additional features of this virtual reality platform:

  • Advanced Display
  • 360 Degrees of Audio
  • Industrial Design
  • Movement and Position Tracking

Sony is already one step ahead of Oculus in developing a motion controller, and is expected to be available in 2016.
