So we have all seen or at least hard abut the smart watches from Apple, samsung or Motorola, which have the usual features of a smartphone and can receive phone calls or other notifications, etc. . Although, this is the first time that a computer + wristwatch concept has been tested. The device can be basically worn like a wristwatch but the device can be connected to the net anytime anywhere. The wrist PC is supposed to have a 3.5 inch touch screen in addition to having a key pad on the sides on the wrist band. The device also comes with a wireless earpiece which can be used for making calls, watching videos or playing games. This device is still at least four years away from being rolled out as its still in the development phase.

No Man’s Sky

This groundbreaking new game will revolutionize the technological world. An entire universe was procedurally generated, meaning that people wrote a program that then took, created and implemented hundreds of thousands of different variables to create…..wait for it…16 Quintilian worlds, all with entirely new wildlife and enviornments. The creators of this game actually had to send probes into their own universe to see what it is they had created.

The entire game is massively multiplayer but the odds of actually running into someone is so minuscule that it could be played entirely as a single player campaign. What makes this so insane is that if they were able to digitize all of the personality traits a person could have they could essentially created life. It’s is insane to think that some people are on the verge of creating an entire living universe inside of our own. Maybe we can get Keanu Reaves to try it out.

Nowadays, driverless car is a really hot topic. Today, the news I am going to talk about is “Baidu driverless car completes test on Beijing roads.” The test was took near the headquarter of the Baidu. Baidu is a tech giant in China. The whole test is 30km. The road include many kinds of the situation. Such as the U turn and sharp turn. The car was controlled by itself. The test is really successful.

Many company are working on the driverless car, such as the Volkswagen, Mercedes and BMW. Most of these companies has already have the technology. But none of them using the technology on the car. There are few reasons. The driverless car is not the same as the other technology. Its liability is about the life of the people. So the technology will not be permitted to use until it fully successful. The law will also not permit the technology because of the previous reason. But there are many pioneers. For example, the Mercedes-Benz. Benz use part of the Driverless technology on their cars. The high end Benz cars has the functions, such as the adaptive cruise. The car will recognize the front car and keep a proper distance. The car can also recognize the line on the highway, and keep the car in the lane. The car can also stop automatic before crash. These technologies are the important parts of the adaptive cruise. If these functions work with the GPS, the car will drive itself.

The driverless technology is really hot now. I hope some day, we use the technology on the road.



Will artificial intelligence kill the smartphone?

This is an interesting debate that I found.  The question is “will artificial intelligence kill the smartphone?”  According to half of the smartphone users that were surveyed by Ericsson, which is a Sweedish multinational provider of communication technology and services, they believe the smartphone will disappear within the next 5 years.  This is staggering as it seems that smartphones are at an all time high in popularity.

These same people that say the smartphone will disappear also said that an AI of some sort will be the main way that people interact with the internet and other wireless devices.  This AI is not yet known, but artificial intelligence has slowly been gaining popularity in the tech field over the past couple of years.  This technology can be a very interesting debate over the next few years as to how this potential artificial technology could replace something as commonplace as the smartphone.

Move over Minecraft

Space has always been something that has interested me. Looking up at the stars and imagining all of the things that are out there is not a bad way to pass the time. Astroneer is a new game being released in early 2016. It gives players the option to travel through space and terraform planets with other players. Unlike the massive online game Minecraft that most people will compare Astroneer to, the game uses a different engine to modify the users surroundings. Instead of stacking blocks, the user will be modifying their surrounds with what loosly looks like a paint or blending tool.

Users will be able to traverse a massive terrain of planets will other players and fight to survive. Although the general concepts of the game are nothing new, the developers say that they have combined them in a new and innovative way. “Many games offer seamless, traversable planetary systems,” says Bromell. “And many others offer synchronous co-op, but Astroneer marries the two in a way that creates a host of new, compelling shared experiences.”

I’m personally very excited for the game to come out. I have never played Minecraft but this definitely looks like something that I’ll give a try. Astroneer has the potential to be the next big tech start up and I will definitely be a supporter.

Tattoos You Could Give Your Child

Chaotic Moon, a company based in Austin, Texas, has been working on a new type of Biowearable device that has the potential to disrupt several industries. Their idea is called Tech Tatts–a temporary tattoo that consists of electric paint instead of ink. Other than the fact that this tattoo doesn’t require any needles, there are many other things that make Tech Tatts really awesome.

According to it’s creators, this device will be able to take place of monitoring devices in hospitals, which will declutter crowded hospital rooms. It will also allow patients to be more mobile, since the Tech Tatt is externally placed on your skin and will not be hooked into walls and other surfaces. Tech Tatt’s aren’t only for hospital patients though. They will be able to track the user’s health and fitness year-round, so those annual checkups would be a thing of the past. The device will be able to alert you at the first signs of illness. Instead of staying home on Wednesday to combat the flu you’ve been anticipating since Monday, you will be able to immediately treat the symptoms. This will increase overall productivity of students and workers.

Although Tech Tatts are extremely beneficial to the health industry, they also have other convenient uses. They would be linked to your smart phone, so you can get notifications with ease. This will also allow you to monitor yourself in the same way a FitBit monitors you. The developers of Tech Tatts also believe their product would disrupt the banking industry. All of your card information could be kept in the Tech Tatt instead of in your wallet, where it is vulnerable to identity thieves. This would also allow users to not have to worry about losing or forgetting their wallet while moving from store to store.

Eric Schneider, the Creative Technologist at Chaotic Moon, also discusses the customization of Tech Tatts. Users would have the ability to design their Tech Tatt as if it were a normal tattoo. Overall, the Tech Tatt is an innovation that could both help and destroy several existing industries. The prototype definitely illustrates where the future of technology is heading.


The Future of Virtual Reality

The Oculus Rift is a headset that displays a virtual reality for the user.  The device provides “90 degrees of horizontal sight and 100 degrees of vertical stereoscopic 3D vision.”  The Oculus Rift is a product of the company Oculus VR, which in 2013 raised $73 million in venture capital.

One person who believes in the future of virtual reality technology is Mark Zuckerberg.  Zuckerberg purchased Oculus Rift in March 2014 for $2 billion.  He believes this technology will soon become a part of people’s everyday lives.

Bill Gates, on the other hand, does not believe that venture-capitalist financed businesses like Oculus Rift make for good investments.  In a 2014 interview, Gates stated, “You know, development sometimes is viewed as a project in which you give people things, and nothing much happens, which is perfectly valid, but if you just focus on that, then you’d also have to say that venture capital is pretty stupid, too.”

As a business major, it is certainly interesting to see two of the most successful businessmen of all time disagree on something like this.  In regards to the technology, however, it will be interesting to see if this really is the technology of the future.

Netflix Continues to Surprise


Netflix has come a long way since its inception in 1999, when it debuted as a subscription based service where customers could order their favorite movies through the mail. However, the company did not really revolutionize the entertainment industry until it rolled out its new streaming services. For less than $10.00 per month, customers would gain access to thousands of titles, along with the ability to stream them in their homes at a moments notice.

However, more than a decade later this all seems like old news. Netflix is everywhere, as it begins to take over the television industry, leading the cord cutting movement that has swept the world off its feet. It has even begun to integrate vertically by producing its own content. It is because of this development that Netflix has continued to expand, long after many thought it had reached its potential. Their journey into content generation has paid off. At the 73rd Golden Globe Awards this past weekend, Netflix Original Shows received eight total nominations, topping all other major networks.

Netflix has progressed further than anyone could have imagined. Just when it seems like the company cannot grow any further it seems to surprise everyone. In my opinion it is a safe bet that they will continue this torrid pace for years to come.

Car accidents caused over 30,000 deaths in the US in 2013  and the problem with that fact is that this number is not decreasing. Automobiles are quick to install new safety features like airbags or collision warning alerts but this does not help the fact that the accident can still take place if the driver is under the influence of an intoxicant or in a similar situation. If only there was a way that the car could be self aware, for example picture your self walking on 5th avenue in New York City  or around time square, there are a massive number of people in that area which includes – tourists, people who live there, working professionals but whilst walking on the sidewalk humans dont keep bumping into each other even if it is a crowded street. The way we evade people coming our way is completely instinctive and we do not even have to think about whilst we are walking around people who are coming directly at us. This is because we have self awareness , the vehicle to vehicle technology that several companies are working on is something similar. Its designed to allow automobiles to talk to each other and communicate with each other in car to car network . Hence your car will know through this network, the speed of the cars around you, if the break has been pressed or not  and even the position of the steering. Henceforth taking road safety to a completely new level, if this is actually implemented, I cannot even imagine of how  dramatic the decline in car accidents will be. GM plans to introduce its car with this technology in 2017.

Periscope: The Cris-Crossing of Live Streaming with Social Media



At the intersection of social media and live streaming, there is Periscope. Not the conclusion you would’ve expected is it? Let’s dig a little deeper. Periscope is a way to live stream anything you do. Not only that, but you can interact with people from all over the world while doing it. Make new friends from across the pond, talk food with a guy in Pittsburgh, all these things and more are possible with this technology. It’s new in the arena of social media, launching only a wee bit ago in March 2015. With competition from rivals Meerkat and Facebook, someone seems to think there could be something to all this. It feels more personal than Google hangouts and reminds me of the college experience in general in how you can just walk up to anyone and start a conversation with them, even though it seems most of us don’t do that. The interface is simple and uses familiar elements to get you going. It can speed up your log-in by linking to your Twitter account. Or just drop your name and a username to open up a new look at the world. Here’s a less intimidating way for you to dip into a world of communicating with new people. Oh the possibilities.
