Microsoft’s Head of IoT Quits to Work For Amazon

Lee Hickin began his career with Microsoft in 2005 eventually becoming responsible for driving their business plan for the Internet of Things. In 2015, Hickin became the head of Microsoft’s IoT division in Australia. But this month, only about a year later, Hickin left Microsoft and has switched his allegiance to Amazon.

As our technological age continues and evolves, there has been immense discussion and emphasis on the subject of the Internet of Things. And in this movement, “Amazon is becoming somewhat of a leader in the IoT.” Lee Hickin has become a part of the Amazon Web Services team for the Asia-Pacific region as the IoT business lead. His responsibilities encompass marketing, sales, and partner development around the Amazon Web Services IoT platform in the region.

I find this situation very interesting because it connotes how important and powerful IoT currently is or is going to be in the world. The fact that a great authority in the field of IoT, who had a ten-year career and leading role at a company like Microsoft, made the decision to move to another company, which is regarded as a leader in IoT, says a lot about how influential this technological movement is going to be.
