Snapchat’s super social media

Social media; what is it? Many forms of social media such as Facebook or Instagram allow us to portray our life the way we want. We are able to display our “lifestyle” through a series of carefully selected  pictures. This is what social media has become, it’s ironic considering we use it to connect when in reality we’re not seeing the real versions of ourselves. I think snapchat is an app that’s starting to change that. It’s the hottest and most ideal form of social media. With snapchat you can be casual and send an unattractive picture to a select few of your friends or post a more ostentatious image or comment to share with everyone at once. It’s convenient and fun to use and the older generation hasn’t ruined it yet.

Snapchat exudes as a great example of social media because with Snapchat you can truly express yourself. Every Snapchat’s user has their own unique story where they can identify themselves with or even just express how you feel. As I mentioned earlier you don’t always have to post a snap to your “story” so you can select individual groups and share your content exclusively with them. Snapchat is ahead of the game and is the most popular form of social media today. Another great feature is knowing the availability of another user. No other social media website or app is as fundamentally sound as this one. All in all, Snapchat is a revolutionary application that portrays a perfect platform for peer-to-peer social networking.

How Snapchat is building the future of social media

  1. As someone who isn’t a huge proponent of social media, Snapchat is the only form of it I use today. Like you mentioned in your post, as well as multiple comments, Snapchat is a fantastic application that allows people to actually be themselves via social media. I completely agree where you say that sites like Facebook allow one to portray themselves in the best possible manner, or how they wish to be perceived, compared to how they actually are. With how Snapchat functions, and doesn’t save your picture indefinitely, it allows you to take photos that don’t have to be picture perfect. An idea moving forward however is what lies ahead for the future of Snapchat? Will they sell out to a larger corporation and become flooded with advertisements? Or, will it stay true to it’s roots and continue to provide what its users want. Relating to class discussion, it will be interesting down the road to see how the IoT will play a role in Snapchat and social media, and what the future may hold for it.

  2. I agree with you that Snapchat is the most popular social media among various generations, cultures and countries. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn still have a stranglehold on the social media world in terms of sheer numbers of users, but a handful of rising social stars are hoping to cement their place as the leading influencers in the industry. Snapchat is only few seconds that pops in front of your eyes that does not let you have time to think. Snapchat also has some new features. Snapchat adds ways to rewind and share Stories and rolls out World Lenses to augment the reality around you.Snapchat’s “World Lenses” are similar to the selfie-filtering lenses that Snapchat introduced last year, only made to be applied, not to your face, but to what’s in front of your face. For what it’s worth, the original lenses could also be applied to the world around you, but they weren’t made for that.

  3. I agree that Snapchat is popular among so many different cultures and groups of people but not quite the most popular social media today. The new features of Snapchat have been progressing the app substantially within the last year. The news tabs were a good touch to keep users on the app for another reason and for a longer time. Many other aspects of the app relate to user personalization (which users today are obsessed with). You can customize who see’s your “public” snaps as well as customizing your own set of stories from your friend’s. The ‘my memories’ part of the app allows any user to save memories as long as their account is active. Snapchat has also done a great job of keeping ads to a minimum in comparison to other social media. In conclusion, snap chat is on the rise and it is one of the major social media sites today.

  4. Snapchat is undoubtedly one of the most popular social media apps currently around and it really is because it does not require much attention or thinking. Videos or photos only last for up 10 seconds which is perfect for a society that can only take their news in 140 characters or less. Snapchat has introduced many new features since its founding, including stories like you mentioned but none may be bigger than their new Snap spectacles. These are essentially sunglasses that can sync to your snapchat so you can take pictures without taking your phone out at all. Considering the last time a company tried to use wearable eye tech we ended up with google glass, snapchat has an uphill battle in terms of selling this product. The appeal is minimal and precedent says that this will be not be a success.
