Elon Musk’s reveals plans for Hyperloop tunnel

After much talk about potentially a New York to Washington Hyperloop tunnel, which would include stops in Philadelphia and Baltimore, Boring Company has decided to start with the California area of Culver City.

This decision is not too shocking considering Elon Musk’s, chief of Tesla Inc and Space Exploration Technologies Corp, idea originated after being “fed up” with LA traffic. In 2016 he tweeted that he would “build a boring tunnel machine”, and two years later he has revealed the plans for the first Boring Company’s Hyperloop tunnel system in the area, which will provide a service at “futuristic high speed”.

Boring Company hopes that their Hyperloop tunnel idea will “alleviate soul-destroying traffic and augment public transit”. The tunnel will be a “privately funded human transportation tunnel that [will] run underneath the Westside of Los Angeles”. Although the tunnel will be owned by the company, they are not expecting any public funding, and they believe that “the cost to passengers would be comparable to, or less than existing forms of public transit in the region”.

According to a Culver City report, “The tunnel [will] contain a high-speed underground public transportation system in which passengers are transported on autonomous electric skates traveling at 125-150mph.”

Hopefully Boring Company venture is a success, and leads the way in an all new era of long distance travel.

  1. I think the Hyperloop has the potential to revolutionize transportation. Being able to have such an innovation become reality is an incredible and difficult feat. The Hyperloop can reach speeds of more than 500 miles per hour. Faster than any modes of transportation in just 30 mins. It’s also a cheaper alternative for travelers when compared to plane rides. Just like waiting for the bus but better, the Hyperloop is expected to arrive every 30 to 120 seconds.

I believe the Hyperloop is a useful investment for anyone that’s looking for a cheaper and faster mode of transportation. With stations being built in other countries such as Asian and Europe, passengers can now go internationally without wasting time in the sky. Moreover, it has fewer environmental impacts which makes it cleaner compared to other modes of transportation.

As much as we would want to see more Hyperloop in other countries and regions quicker, the time and money invested in creating one is a lot. Although we won’t be seeing another one soon, at least we can witness it in California. With this mind, I am very optimistic for the future.

  2. The Boring Company does seem to be moving forward. Elon Musk has said recently that he received “verbal” approval to implement the hyperloop between DC and New York; however, there are many things to consider here. Building a tunnel underground requires a lot of time and resources, not to mention a lot of regulations to overcome. It will be an expensive project to undertake. Building the hyperloop above ground in California will be less expensive and logistically easier.

On the bright side, the underground route Musk proposed would travel around five times faster than the one planned in California. This would revolutionize the future of transportation and commuting and cut down on pollution as a result of the fact that fewer people would be commuting to work in cars. It would also be safer since it would cut down on accidents on the roads.

Hyperloop One is projected to have 3 systems open by 2021, and these systems have the ability to travel upwards of 700 mph, so there are definitely multiple private companies working towards the same technology.
