Disney and Design Experience: How Disney Has Enhanced the Customer Experience

Disney as a company has consistently shown its unmatched level of customer service and experience in all of its parks. An amazing customer experience is essential in a place like Disney World, and Disney has become such an innovative company in the sense that they are constantly raising the bar for their customer experience in the happiest place on earth.

A new addition to the customer experience and Disney’s commitment to their mission is the new app, Play Disney Parks App, which was launched in 2018. While Disney has their regular apps for their parks already including park ticket, restaurants, and maps, this app is exclusively for rides and park attractions. This is a popular app for those who have to wait on the long lines in the park, and is designed to keep excited park goers occupied while sometimes having to wait in long lines. For example, when waiting on line for space mountain, a visitor could design their own space related item such as a rocket ship, or interact with the characters on the app while waiting for a popular attraction such as Toy Story Mania or Slinky Dog Dash. An app like this is an incredible advancement of the design experience for Disney, and is only adding to their ever increasing revenue.

Another addition to Disney’s overall design experience is the success of the interaction on the Play Disney Parks App with the opening of the Star Wars: Galaxy Experience in Disneyland. When in the Star Wars area of the park, a visitor’s app turns entirely into Star Wars, allowing them to interact with the characters via technology, as well as providing true fans an opportunity to test their star wars knowledge.

The goal of the Play Disney Parks App is not only to improve the design and customer experience of the park, but add a personalized feel to the visitors in the park. As well as providing entertainment for those long park days, it also has technology that allows special affects to happen in the location of the user, such as seeing the results of their game or interaction on a digital screen seen in front of them in various areas of the park.

Disney is truly unmatched in its design experience and has set the bar for other companies, theme parks, and any other competitor in the hospiitality industry because of its design experience. I would love to know everyone’s thoughts on Disney’s incredible brand and customer experience overall. Do we think other theme parks have the ability to do the same? Can this idea be used in daily life, not just the experience of a theme park? Is having a successful design experience crucial to the success of a theme park in this 2019 technologically advanced era?

  1. Your post is very interesting! I went to Disney Park last summer and the app helps a lot! It saves a lot of time for me and gives me more chances to try different things since it shows how long it will take in the lines. I think using technology like apps to develop the costumers’ experience can happen in not only amusement park. Chick-fil-A recently launched a dine-in mobile app that allows costumers ordering their foods on their table, without waiting in lines. People can tap their cellphones to the table number and the team member of Chick-fil-A will deliver their foods to their table. It certainly develops the costumer experience, since people don’t need to stand there and wait in long lines. All they need to do is tap their phones. This example shows that apps can really make our experience much better and save us a lot of time.
