Website design has become crucial for the success of businesses and other organizations. Specifically, the ability of a website to be mobile friendly now has a huge effect on how customers view an organization. According to one poll, 72% of users want mobile-friendly websites while 79% said they would leave a site that isn’t user-friendly. With a majority of Americans using their cellphones to buy things online, and over 75% of adults being online almost constantly, it is no longer optional for a company to overlook the importance of a well-designed website. Well designed websites can improve commerce and increase the number of users who utilize it.
Currently, up to 50% of online commerce comes from mobile phones. Therefore, by failing to create a mobile-friendly website, a business can be sacrificing almost half of its online income. It is crucial to employ quality graphic designers, in the current age, due to the large amounts of money and commerce that are sacrificed without a mobile-friendly or even a user-friendly web page. In the last year, the ratio of desktop to mobile usage has spread to 61% mobile and 39% desktop. It is now economically inefficient to not produce a mobile-friendly web page.
On a more personal note, my older brother graduated Kutztown University with a degree in graphic design in 2001. In the early 2000s, he found difficulty in finding a job in his field an settled down in rural Pennsylvania designing t-shirts for around 5-7 years. To talk to him now, you would never believe it. He now contracts for several different companies designing mobile applications and web pages in Chicago. He’s making six figures and will likely never have any problems finding a job if he loses his current contracts. It speaks volumes about the importance of website design and its growth in the past few years, and it is likely to continue to grow.

I think the design of the website is very important, it can attract more people to understand if the company wants to attract customers or talents. I think this is essential and we need a good idea of website design. The company must highlight the characteristics of their own characteristic and some new things. They must not always use the old introduction and add new elements to attract viewers.
Personally speaking, when I browsing a online store’s websites, I tend to purchase products on a good looking and clearly classified website, which cost less time to browse as much products as possible. Therefore, I agree that the web design has a big effect on a business’s success in modern society.
We are living in the Internet era now, people do much of their purchasing online, and a large amount of those customers tend to use phones to browsing the stores’ websites. A mobile-friendly website design not only gives customers better browsing experience, but also keep their attention. Also, an organized website makes it easy for customers to contact you, and then build trust. This post caught my eye since our upcoming homework is based on web design. I agree that web design is very important and as our technologies continue to evolve so must these designs. I am definitely in the 79% of people that would leave a website if it was not user friendly. There is essentially no excuse for a website to not be easy to navigate with today’s resources. Websites, whether it be on mobile device or for desktops, need to constantly be updated in order to be successful.
An important aspect of this is user experience design (UX design). UX design is what a person feels when interacting with a website, app, or some sort of system. It crucial to provide a positive experience to users in order to create loyalty. UX design looks to solve problems that users are facing and combat them head on. To do this, designers need to truly get to know their users and know exactly what they want. By doing this it will ensure the success of not only their designs, but also their brand/ company.

I think it’s very interesting that website design today can be a key factor in a business’ success. Business’ today need to have a website that is easy to navigate, that is useful for users, and that is mobile-friendly. That being said, web design is constantly evolving to what today’s technologically savvy people want and need, and another way websites are being updated is through the use of AI technology.
One way AI is being used to improve and update website design today is through chatbots. Having chatbots to interact with users of a website not only makes it easier to use, but also gives them the help they need if they are having trouble using the site. Another way this modern technology is being used is informing results from AI and machine learning to improve the design and development of websites. AI is being used as an analytical tool to see which website designs work best for different companies’ websites, so that similar features and designs can be used to help improve similar companies’ sites.
As website design and development is becoming more important in the success and failure of a business, AI and machine learning are becoming just as important in being a key to helping these websites improve in usability, design and more! What’s the next new technology that will find its way into improving website design? Maybe one day in the future users will be able to use facial recognition technology to log into accounts on websites just like they do to unlock their iPhone!

I agree with the fact that mobile devices are often used nowadays to visit websites rather than computers. With the statistics provided in the above post, it proves that it is extremely crucial to make websites more mobile friendly in order to stay in business and successful. A mobile friendly website allows for a greater experience between the customer and company itself. I personally enjoy online shopping but it is not always convenient because I do not carry my laptop on me 24/7. It is true that people nowadays use more mobile phones than go to the website. Everyone would bring their phones wherever they go. However, not all would like to bring their heavy laptops to go out. And it is true that people spend much more time on mobile phone using. The more time people spend on their mobile phone using, the more possible people would see those web pages on phone. Personally, I really like to shop online by using mobile phone apps rather than using my computer sometimes. If I feel boring or at leisure, I would always turn on my shopping apps and look through that. So it is really obvious that companies will miss out a lot of potential opportunities if they do not develop their own apps or mobile-friendly website.
In the digital age, everything is online so making a user friendly, attractive interface is essentially to maintaining a successful webpage. We learned in class how we are programmed with mental models of how certain types of sites are supposed to look. Specifically with social media, we have very specific mental models of how social medias are supposed to look and what they are supposed to include. Many social media have failed because they lacked what is included in our mental models.
Take the social media app YikYak for example. YikYak offered many good social media aspects such as short direct posts, comments, and a location based feed but, YikYak ultimately failed because it lacked other elements like ability to make profiles and groups. YikYak also lacked the ability of create connections which is why I think it ultimately failed.

I have to agree that website design is very important to the success of a business in today’s society. This connects perfectly to what our past assignment was with picking our college website and another website. One can see that if the administrators of these websites employe the correct techniques in website design that the website can be very usable by the user, but more importantly display the information that they want to see. Reddit does this job amazingly, even though they have to display so much information to the user at once. The color scheme and contrast between the different buttons and features they have on the website allow the user to clearly see what they are doing, and the options that they have. Joshua Paul Designs points out some of the key features that make a website successful. It hits on all the key points that a website must have to compete in today’s society.
As you stated in your post, graphic design is an ever-growing field in our world today. As we talked about in class, UX Design is an important aspect of a successful website.
