Celebs Help During Pandemic

In a time like this where the world is facing a global pandemic, many celebrities are trying to use their social media platforms to help. While some are using their platforms to preach the importance of social distancing, others are taking a more hands on approach.

For example, Brittany Spears recently took to Instagram to post a video encouraging her fans to DM her if they are having financial troubles due to the pandemic (which could be caused by job loss/inability to go out). She said whether they needed “food or even just diapers” they should reach out. She has been responding to DMs by pay-palling people money.

In addition to Brittany, other stars have been spreading positivity in these trying times. Donatella Versace and her daughter donated €200,000 to a hospital in Milan, where hospitals are under huge financial strain due to being over-run and not having enough resources to deal with the influx of people they are receiving. Also, the CEO of Delta, a major airline, has foregone his own salary to help prevent layoffs.

In trying times like these, it is good to remember that there is still lots of good in the world.

  1. Celebrities who that a taking a stand and help fund people during this crisis are great people. Players in the nfl and nba are helping by donating part of their salaries to the stadium workers that can’t work because of this pandemic. Some people I feel are only posting these responses videos in order to help their names go into the public again, which I feel is a bit of them seizing opportunity that is presented to them. Some people are also giving information and news updates on this virus and this can also gives way to more misinformed people. People should certainly be helping those if they can, but be sure to get your information from the CDC or other government organizations in order to help prevent the future spread of this virus.

  2. It is interesting to see how people reaction to a global pandemic like such. I have seen celebrities offering to send money to people in need, I have see a bunch of people singing Imagine by John Lennon together, I have seen celebrities sharing positive quotes and messages on social media. It is cool to see who tries to help others by using their large social media following and who becomes quiet during these times. Many people have become frustrated by celebrities actions because they feel they are flexing their money and wealth and pitting others. I just let them do what they want to do and what they feel is helping. We are all in this together and what one person may find comforting anther could find threatening.

  3. During this pandemic, it is great to see celebrities and athletes doing what they can to help out people financially or just trying to help take their minds off of the this pandemic for a few hours per day. Basketball players Kevin Love, Giannis Antetokounmpo, and Blake Griffin each donated to $100,000 to their teams home arenas to help the workers who would not be able to work due to the NBA suspending its season due to the coronavirus outbreak. Mark Cuban, owner of the Dallas Mavericks, set up a program for the workers of the Maverick’s home arena to help get through the NBA suspension. On the other side of helping people, skateboarder Tony Hawk has held multiple livestreams on Instagram where he took trick request from the people watching the stream and one where he held a mini cooking show. These acts from celebrities are helping the general population a ton, either with donations to help them get by or with small ways to help them focus on other things rather than the pandemic. All these things, combined with their messages to stay safe, will help all of us to get through this pandemic.

  4. I love that celebrities are offering aid to those being laid-off, but I also have been enjoying just some of the “fun” that they are spreading. Sometimes when I’m on TikTok, I see celebrities like J-Lo and A-Rod, or people from the Bachelorette (Tyler Cameron and Hannah Brown) creating TikToks with who they’re quarantining themselves with. Just seeing these brightens the mood on a not-so-great situation. The Killers posted an Instagram video of washing your hands to Mr. Brightside and Miley Cyrus posting a video from Hannah Montana to help encourage people to stay inside and practice good hygiene (Carter 2020). In my opinion, social media can be either good or bad during this pandemic, but many celebrities are using this time to create positivity through small videos and messages that are fun to watch.

  5. There are many celebrities that are using their platforms and social medias to help those in need and doing what they can to set an example of staying home during this time. Many people look up to celebrities so if they see that their favorite celebs are staying home, they are more inclined to stay at home. There are also celebs that are donating money to help out those in need during this crazy time. For example, Russell Wilson and Ciara have donated one million meals to help feed those who can’t provide food for themselves. There are a lot of other celebrities that are donating to different organizations, especially food banks to help feed people in need. Social media during this time has really benefited everyone because of celebs giving an insight to their lives and setting the example of quarantining during this pandemic.
