Coronavirus Tracking Technology Is On Going Program for Apple and Google

As this Covid-19 is ongoing pandemic, the two world biggest technology-driven companies, Google and Apple are trying to develop a technology that could track coronavirus.

The basic concept of this contact tracing technology is by using Bluetooth in application user’s cell phones. If someone is infected with the virus, the phones will send out the signals to all the other phones that they encountered during those preceding 14 days.

Of course, there are worries whether this tech is innocuous for our privacy. Both of Apple and Google CEOs, Tim Cook and Sundar Pichai promised user’s privacy will not be at risk.

While the privacy is the primary concern, there are some other problems. To make this technology effective for people, more than billions of people should opt in for this. Also, for the I-phone users, they need to be able to power IOS 13, which is available after I-phone 6S. As this shows, there are some conditional obstacles, but we do not know, yet, how those two biggest rivalry companies would cooperate to make such technology.

No one knows how long it will takes, but it is worth that both Apple and Google is in the framework of this tracking technology.

  1. This is a very interesting and unique idea. The first thing I thought as well was that the privacy would be an issue, but after looking into this idea I think that this could be beneficial. In todays world, it is crucial to have anything that will help the slow of this virus. Adding in technology is an interesting and cool way to help the stop of the spread of this disease.

  2. This is pretty interesting idea. Obviously privacy issue will rise, it has been issue for many years. It seems like as technology develops people concern more about their privacy. Currently in Korea tracking and tracing people who encountered infected people is all controlled by the government and police. If this technology develops and be published it could be a huge help to track corona virus, however keys to the success would be whether all people will download the app and use it, also if a person’s bluetooth is not turned the app could be useless.
