SoundCloud tracks can now be shared to Instagram Stories

Streaming service SoundCloud makes it easier for its users to share music from service directly to Instagram. The tracks from SoundCloud are shared as links that appear within in Instagram’s story. To actually listen to the track, users have to click the “Play on SoundCloud” link, which then redirects them to the SoundCloud app to begin listening. This offers a way for fans and artists to promote their music through Instagram’s hugely popular Stories platform, but it’s not quite the same as being able to actually share music via Instagram, as the listening takes place elsewhere.

The sharing feature follows the recent launch of SoundCloud’s monitization program for artists, and serves as another means for musicians to reach their fans outside of the platform itself.

3D Printing in medical field

3D printing has many functions in a variety of industries, however, in the medical field it has four main applications. Allie Nawrat found out how this technology could be used to replace human organ transplants, speed up surgical procedures, produce cheaper versions of required surgical tools, and improve the lives of those reliant on prosthetic limbs.

  1. Bio-printing tissues and organoids: One of the many types of 3D printing that is used in the medical device field is bioprinting. Rather than printing using plastic or metal, bioprinters use a computer-guided pipette to layer living cells, referred to as bio-ink, on top of one another to create artificial living tissue in a laboratory.
  2. Surgery preparation: Another application of 3D printing in the medical field is creating patient-specific organ replicas that surgeons can be use to practice on before performing complicated operations. This technique has been proven to speed up procedures and minimise trauma for patients.
  3. 3D printing of surgical instruments: One of the main benefits of using 3D printing rather than traditional manufacturing methods to produce surgical instruments is the production costs are significantly lower.
  4. Custom-made prosthetic:3D printing in the medical field can be used to produce prosthetic limbs that are customised to suit and fit the wearer. It is common for amputees to wait weeks or months to receive prosthetics through the traditional route; however, 3D printing significantly speeds up the process, as well as creating much cheaper products that offer patients the same functionality as traditionally manufactured prosthetics.

How AI helps recruiter to select diverse candidates

LinkedIn has developed a new features that utilize artificial intelligence in terms of helping recruiters to select diverse candidates and avoid unconscious bias. Unconscious bias can play a role in the hiring process, companies and recruiters are more likely to gravitate to people who are similar to their personalities or brand images. For example, if a team is mostly made up by men, then the teammates may less likely select female candidates onto their team. Such unconscious bias would often makes the recruiter miss the individuals who could generate different perspectives due to their diverse backgrounds and personalities, but the introduction of AI could change this problem by providing a complete analysis on the candidate’s resume and performance.

This new AI feature will be implemented into LinkedIn’s talent insight product, aimed at the recruiters, and focus on gender and background diversity. The platform will also keep track about what happen in the recruiting process with regards to gender, showing companies reports and insights about how their job postings performed on this.  LinkedIn will also re rank the top search result in LinkedIn recruiter to be more representative. The use of artificial intelligence could provide a more comprehensive understanding about their job posting feedback and candidate’s diversity. This new feature of LinkedIn is a great demonstration of adapting new technology into the information system.
