The most luxury super dense memory storage: Diamond!!

Diamond is always one of the favorite things for girls. It is a symbol of rich and marriage. People buy it, because it looks beautiful and perfect. However, in the future, diamond can not only be a luxury jewel, but also be a platform for people to save date.

Recently, “scientists have explored creating defects in diamonds for potential use in quantum computers. ” However, now, scientists found out that the defects in diamonds actually can store data like microscopic pits in CDs and DVDs help encode bits of data.

According to Siddharth Dhomkar, a physicist at the City College of New York,” We are the first group to demonstrate the possibility of using diamond as a platform for the superdense memory storage.” They found that they could “encode data in the form of negatively and neutrally charged defects.” This kind of data could be read and adjusted by lasers.

However, there are still some difficulties during the research. Dhomkar said,”each bit of data could be stored in a spot on the diamond only a few nanometers, or billionths of a meter, wide. This is much smaller than any similar features used in data storage.” But currently, they cannot “read or write data encoded using such tiny features.”

Although there is difficulty, these researchers  showed the capability of encoding data in 3D. According to Dhomkar, “The researchers’ 3D data-storage technique could lead to a diamond-based storage disk that can store 100 times more data than a typical DVD”

Now, Dhomkar and his researchers are still working on the problem they faced. He said,”The storage density of such an optimized diamond chip would then be far greater than [that of] a conventional hard disk drive,” Maybe some day in the future, instead of buying DVD, rich people will buy diamond to watch movies.

If you are a college student, you will definitely understand this felling. You are in a party, but the host tell you that they have to shut the party down, because they run out off beer. It not only feels bad, but also destroys the connection between people. Now, you don’t have to worry about this anymore. Recently, Uber-owned startup Otto invented a new self- driving truck that can deliver beer.

Recently, Otto “made the first autonomous commercial delivery by driving 120 miles (200 kilometers) across Colorado to deliver 2,000 cases of Budweiser beer.” This truck only need a driver what is responsible of ” performing pickup, loading the freight and ensuring the cargo is secure in the back of the vehicle.” According to a driver of this new self- driving truck, “Drivers also navigate the city portions of the trip.”

Self-driving car is always one of the most debatable issues. Many people believe it will cause car accidents. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, there are five different level to define the vehicle’s autonomy (from 0~4). Otto’s truck is defined as level 4 while on the highway, which means it can be performed without driver.

Otto co-founder Anthony Levandowski said, “Otto’s technology is all about making the road safer. It’s like a train on software rails, so when you will see a vehicle driving with nobody in it, you’ll know that it’s very unlikely to get in a collision.”

Since Tesla appears, people are curious about self-driving cars. If safety issues can be confirmed, it will be really exciting to see how Otto’s trucks perform in the future.

What? Computer can read you mind in the future?

Before, there were computers that could read people’s mind in movies. Many people didn’t believe that cold be real. However, today there are people doing research about making computer read people’s mind. It is not science fiction anymore. Researchers are actually working on this right now

From the age of punch cards to 2016, people have been through all the computer revolution. Today, professor Frances Van Scoy is researching a new technology that can be called “computing at the speed of thought.” It is a “low-cost open-source projects such as OpenBCI allow people to assemble their own neuroheadsets that capture brain activity noninvasively.”

In other word, writers do not have to type or hand write their drafts anymore. They only have to imagine the setting, characters, environments, and plots. The computer can type down the draft for the writers.

Before this technology, writing new apps or software can only be done by people that study computer science. However, after this new technology, every people can write their own software. They only have to think the function and the model of it, then the computer can finish the technical process for the users. Writing software and applications is no longer belong to professional engineers.

Although this technology seems cool, it is still under research. This invention will not only start a new revolution of technology, but also start a revolution of computer regulation. All we can do today is to wait and see professor Frances Van Scoy’s development.

Why Iphone 7? Maybe Google Pixel?

Recently, many people were discussing the failure of Samsung Galaxy Note 7. Some people believed this failure would make Iphone 7 plus even more successful. However, for people who were interesting in Iphone 7 plus’s new camera, maybe you should also consider this new android phone, Google Pixel.

According to Apple, Iphone 7 Plus’s camera was one of the biggest advances. This new camera was so different from the one before. They understood the potential of camera’s market, so it was normal for Apple to keep marketing their new camera technology. Bet after I did a little research on today’s smartphone’s camera, I found out that Iphone 7 Plus’s camera might not be the best.

First, we were going to look at the difference of landscapes. According to Vanessa Hand Orellana, she believed Pixel had a better landscape photo. Pixel’s color “are slightly more saturated in this shot.””The texture on the leaves is more identifiable and the background appears to be sharper.”

Second, since many people liked to take selfies, it was important to compare the selfies between these two phones. If you were a selfie- taker, Google’s Pixel would be a great choice. Pixel had an “8-megapixel sensor compared to the iPhone’s 7 megapixels.” Furthermore, Pixel also had wider-angle.

In conclusion, if camera quality was your primary consideration when you were buying phones, you should really consider more about Google Pixel. Since both Google and Apple claimed they had best camera, it was interesting to see which company’s camera can really satisfy customers.

The future of product delivery, Self- driving delivery robot

When Amazon keeps advertising their new delivery approach, flying drones, a company named Starship Technologies is actually inventing a new delivery robot. Starship Technologies is founded by the former Skype co-founders. They believe this new technology will not only be better than Amazon’s drone, but also be the future of delivery industry.

This unnamed robot is small, safe, and free from CO2 emission. Their primary function is to “complete local deliveries in between five and 30 minutes from a designated hub or retail outlet.” They can carry up to two shopping bags. This is not designed to complete the whole delivery, because this makes the customers can accurately control the arriving slots.

Some people may worry that the package might be stolen. Other people worry that the whole robot can be taken. However, these worries have already be considered by the designers. First, the robot is locked until it arrive the destination. People cannot get the packages inside until it arrive customers’ places. Second, there are nine cameras on the robot, and the robot is always connected to the internet and GPS. Therefore, if someone steal it, it is easy to notice and find out.

In conclusion, the founder of Starship Technologies believes that this robot will be the future of delivery. Although Amazon has flying drones, Starship Technologies believes that people will not accept other thing fly through their backyard. It is really exciting to see how will the future delivery industry be.

Samsung’s biggest challenge? Galaxy Note 7!

In today’s smart phone industry, there is no doubt that Apple and Samsung almost cover the whole market. With this intense competition, it is always important for both companies to maintain products’ quality. When people talk about products’ quality, they always think about safety first. Customers safety is the most basic and the most important issues for these two companies to focus on. However, Samsung did not do well on this recently.

Recently, Samsung released their new phone, Galaxy Note 7. Although this is a phone with high expectation, in early September, nearly 100 cases of battery failure and fires with the Note 7 were reported. This shocking message made “Samsung and U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) announced a complete official recall of all Galaxy Note 7 in the U.S.” They let customer return their old Note 7, and get a new one.

However, things did not get better. After the first recall, the new and safe Galaxy Note 7s were still facing the same problem. People were still reporting the battery and fire issues. This serious problem made customers lose faith in Samsung. Finally, on October 10th, Samsung halted sales of the Galaxy Note 7, and promised  to refund all customers.

After this obstacle, many Samsung users were not believing in this brand  anymore. Furthermore, Apple also just released their Iphone 7. It is no doubt that Apple will easily win this competition this year. It is also exciting to see how Samsung will solve this issue in the future.
