Orion: the journey to space

NASA along with its contractors have built some amazing space transportation system which carried humans to space. The spacecrafts which were used to build the ISS and to take astronauts to and fro ISS, the commons module during Apollo launches, the lunar lander for Apollo.

But if we look at the concept of capsule for example the command module of Apollo, used to land on water for recovery. The new tech thatNASA has built, the Orion can even land on ground with inflatable surfaces that allows smooth and safe landing. The earlier capsule could only carry 3 astronauts but since the evolution of technology we have seen a very vast growth which has allowed Orion to carry 4-6 astronauts. It can take humans to deep space like Mars and asteroids and even beyond. It runs on complete solar energy and is way more advanced in terms of operation as compared to previous years tech. It’s all because of so many tech evolutions that’s have been combined together to produce an amazing technology to create a better future.

Space Launch System

Most of us have heard the stories about the Apollo launches and Howe art  housed to shake when the Saturn V rocket used to blast off from Kennedy Space Center. It is said that humans have made two things which sets a mark on the Richter scale, one is the atom bomb and the other is the rocket Saturn V. It was also recorded that when Saturn V was launched, the windows of nearby houses broke. So Now what’s next? It’s the Boeing’s ultimate Rocket known as Space Launch System which will carry humans to Mars and beyond.

So if a Saturn V which was a 363ft rocket produced that much noise, just imagine the consequences of a 384ft rocket.

So humans are going to Mars, one day we will be sipping a coffee and doing some advance blogs somewhere from Mars. Although there’s some time when this will happen but it will come soon enough.

IST class has shown us so many innovations and made us think about how it takes place and the connection b/w the tech and the people. This rocket will be one of the biggest leap for that.

Kill Vehicle

So humans are building technologies in different areas including the military. A new invention known as the kill vehicle came to be known a while back. This vehicle is a satellite in space which is a contract given by U.S. Defense to Raytheon, Lockheed-Martin, and Boeing to begin designing  a “Multi-Object Kill Vehicle”, which could destroy several objects in space with a single launch.

Raytheon is planning to load multiple MOKVs onto a single missile for launch. “Each MOKV would be outfitted with sensors, a steering and propulsion system and communications equipment that will allow them to zero in on an individual target and hit it, destroying the object by sheer kinetic forces. The impacts would take place beyond Earth’s atmosphere, but on a trajectory that would send the resulting cloud of debris back into the atmosphere, where it burn up.”

Wondering about the defense acts and initiatives taken by various countries makes me think that we first build technologies to destroy/protect others and at the same time we want to enrich our defense. Every country spends so much money on this. Imagine a world where all that money after curing the world problems helps create a united station of peace in space. Well, that’s not going to happen, everyone has some insecurity and every country definitely needs to keep itself safe because there is someone who does not understand peace so we need to spend money on technologies like these.

Look at this wonderful picture of the kill vehicle..

Robotic Ambulance: A flying Machine

So we all know various types of flying machines and every machine has its own use. Well, the airplanes are also in a way an autonomous flying machines but still needs to be controlled at many instances. Now there is a technology coming up which is a flying ambulance and is 100% autonomous that is it won’t have a pilot inside it.

It is meant to complete missions in rough terrain or combat zones,  helicopters currently offering the best transportation option in most cases. Invented by an Israeli company Urban Aeronautics, they completed a test flight for a robotic flying vehicle. This autonomous vehicle is designed to eventually carry people or equipment and is pretty evident from its former name Airmule, without a human pilot on board. The robotic flyer pilots itself entirely through laser altimeters, radar and sensors. The system is “smart” enough to self-correct when it makes mistakes, company

Another interesting fact about this is that the aircraft doesn’t need to worry about bumping into a wall and damaging the rotors because the Cormorant uses ducted fans rather than propellers or rotors to fly and these fans are effectively shielded rotors.

The video of its test which was conducted last month will show how technology is progressing and I can not wait for the day when we all will be in space.

Dragon V2: SpaceX at its best

http://https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=yEQrmDoIRO8

So we all know the different spacecrafts (Atlantis, Columbia, endeavor, discovery and enterprise) which were built to build International Space Station and to visit it. But now it’s been a while that those spacecrafts are now left just for inspiration in museums. So what’s next?

Dragon V2. Another breakthrough by SpaceX which is the next generation spacecraft designed to carry astronauts to Earth orbit and beyon. The earlier spacecraft as we know which were used by NASA for apollo or the Soyuz by Russia (presently in use) could carry at most 3 astronauts. These spacecrafts recovery is to happen as a splash in the oceans. This version of capsule by SpaceX can carry 7 aastronauts and could land propulisvely almost anywhere on Earth. It is also reusable by just refueling it. This is going to revolutionize the space travel.

But this was not enough! The earlier capsules used to have so many buttons for astronauts to operate hence making it difficult for a layman to understand. Although this is Rocket Science, so it isn’t meant to be understood by a layman but Dragon V2 has a control panel with all the neccessary inputs and outputs in one small screen and perhaps making it easier for a layman to at least understand what is going on.

I can not stop talking about it so I would suggest you all to watch this video and see how cool technologies can be..

The mobile technology: iPhone and the new technology

http://https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=PQqudiUdGuo

so IPhone 7 released this year keeping up with Apple’s tradition of releasing a new phone every year. The sales of apple’s iPhone can never lead to a loss because Steeve jobs has made some tremendous breakthroughs and therefore genreated some apple lovers. iPhone 7 despite of having no new technology apart from some minor improvements got a big sale.

There are many other technology’s in mobile that are coming up for example the droid in which you can actually make your own mobile phone. This allows different generations to have a mobile of their own. Whether they want a good camera, battery, processor and many other cool accessories like projector and lens. So even if there are many techs like this we can easily see that Apple is sort of a benchmark for other mobile phones.

So Google is also building a new technology with some awesome aesthetics and probably the most modular phone as of now. This is ina project phase and is known as the Project era.

so why is it that despite of these many awesome technologies we are still attracted to Apple products.

please watch this awesome video of Google’s project era.

The AutoPilot

Most people are now familiar with the term autopilot which has been used by airplanes to self-govern the plane when in the air and sometimes while landing. But why is it so famous these days? It’s because of the new breakthrough in technology by TESLA is bringing a car which has its very own autopilot feature. A person can switch on the autopilot mode and sit back and relax while the car drives for you. Although I personally enjoy driving but it will be a hell of an experience seeing the car drive for you.

“For an additional $4,250, Tesla customers could purchase a “technology package” that used the sensors, as well as a camera, a front radar, and digitally controlled brakes, to help avoid collisions—essentially allowing the car to take over and stop before crashing. But mostly, the hardware sat there, waiting, waiting, and gathering reams of data. A year later, last October 14, the company sent a software update to the 60,000 sensor-laden cars it had sold in that time. The software update was officially named Tesla Version 7.0, but it’s nickname—Autopilot—was what stuck”

There might be some cons of this technology at this stage but if we see the future, this is one of the technologies that we need and having it in an electric car makes it sustainable.

The customers are really happy with this technology and have posted several videos of them enjoying the drive.

Following is the video that one should watch in order to see how fascinating this technology is.

SolarCity’s Gigafactory

SolarCity’s new project of making living sustainable is bringing us one of the breakthrough’s in technology. It is said to be the future of solar power that is under construction and is known as the Gigafactory.

Solar panels installed by SolarCity cost the company $2.84 per watt which includes sales and marketing plus overhead, in addition to the cost of the hardware, coming down from $4.73 in 2012. The combination of the new, highly efficient panels, the volume of product coming out of the new factory, and a simplified manufacturing process is a big reason why the company expects its costs for residential solar to fall well below $2.50 per watt by the end of 2017, when the Buffalo facility reaches full production. Therefore this makes the technology far more economical and feasible.

The solar panels, when producing excess energy in the houses, can be used by homeowners to sell that energy back to the grid in some states.

The following video below talks through some important statistics of the Giga factory in buffalo.

Commericialization: Space hotel/workspace

Space stations, space settlements or going to Mars, all sounds exciting but space is now being commercialized. A company named Bigelow Aerospace is creating a futuristic and low-cost station that can be accessed by civilians or general industries for research. As of now, there are only two countries which have space stations, USA and China. Having a private space station and that to be at a low cost can be a revolutionizing idea in the coming future.

The owner of the company has created lots of motels and now look towards a space hotel. This space station is really cheap to produce as it can be inflated by nitrogen and oxygen and according to the research by the company, it is said to be better against space debris and particles.

One of the modules of this space hotel is currently being tested at International Space Station. It is said that civilians can be taken to this station through Boeing’s starliner.

The space technologies are increasing at a fast rate and there will be a time when more than 10,000 people will be living in a space settlement.

Here is a clip from CNN which talks about this wonderful technology.

Boeing’s Starliner

Moving towards new technologies, we are seeing many companies developing products or technologies that ARE revolutionizing the space travel. Part of this revolution is BOeing’s CST-100 (Crew transportation system) which is next generation space capsule that will take astronauts to ISS or civilians to the orbiting stations.

Imagine Apollo capsule in which they had thousands of buttons and almost no space with a maximum occupancy of 3. But the rising technologies and research have enabled Boeing to have almost no buttons (supported with tablets) and space for 7 astronauts in the module. These upcoming technologies will enable us to have a comfortable space travel, even if it is to Mars.

I can not even count how many innovations have taken place since then. The earlier capsule could just land on water but the technology of Boeing enabled it to even have a soft landing on a hard surface.

It’s a space race…but at a whole new level!
