Do you still watch cable?

Streaming technology has really taken over the entertainment industry. TV channels are really falling behind the likes of Netflix and Hulu. These services are so flexible in modes, times, places and so on. They are almost always available on computers, phones and TVs. Cable TV services even strap users down with their annual contracts and termination fees while streaming services only ask for subscription fees that can be cancelled at any time. With affordability, there is no question about which is better. The average cable package is $105 while streaming services range from $8 to $20. Third, when it comes to customer satisfaction, there is always a sweet spot with choice and cable TV is no where near that. Not only do streaming service have many series and movies that can be recommended and liked but there are a lot of different services: Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, Showtime, YouTube TV and the list goes on.

Cable TV does have some wins. For instance, users can pick from hundreds of channels. Also, sports channels on Cable TV are far more superior to the options on streaming services. They do not require reliable high speed internet. Therefore, in countries with developing infrastructure streaming services might be quite frustrating.

In conclusion, I think the streaming services are in the lead. But what do you think? Which do you prefer?

Google Maps vs. Apple Maps

Navigation is built into our everyday lives as we try to manoeuvre new environments and we unintentionally forget old ones. Now, we have access to advanced GPS technology that can tell us real-time information about location suitability from almost anywhere in the world. It is in our vehicles, devices and applications but I would like to talk particularly about the GPS on our phones. The question is do you use Google Maps or Apple Maps? Which one do you trust to get you to a new class or that off-campus party?

Although Google Maps is in the lead in terms usage and preference, Apple Maps is climbing upĀ  with its new updates and policies. Some upgrades are level-ups to Google Maps like their Look Around feature that displays HD 360-degree street-level photography and real-time transit information about bus arrivals and departures. Other upgrades are original ideas like their new flyover display that makes the locations more photo-realistic. Ultimately, Apple Maps prides in one thing over Google Maps: privacy. They are consistently committed to keeping personal information safe as users even have the ability to use their app incognito in terms identification and location.

Google Maps vs. Apple Maps

Regardless, Google Maps is in the lead. I am sure you have noticed their cute logo change as well as other prospective updates that have to do with the Contribute feature (that will allow local guides to leave reviews more easily) and Live View (that will silence the annoying voice reiterating directions in route). Also, Google Maps plans to make bus and other transit information as detailed as how hot the bus is or if there is security on the service. In addition to these upgrades, research has shown that because of clear directions, preferred features and user-friendly interface.

In conclusion, the winner between Google Maps and Apple Maps, as it often does, depends. Do you take privacy very seriously? Apple Maps is the application for you. Do you care a lot about interface? Google Maps is the one on top. All in all, both applications deserve merit but now the facts show Google Maps is in the lead. However, nowadays, privacy is becoming more and more important so who knows what’s to come?
