IoT is the main”disruptive technology”

We talked about in class on how IoT is going to be used and applied to many new technologies from now to the future. However, IoT is going to cause issues as it will bring up many new disruptive innovations which will negatively impact other business like how the emergence of Uber negatively impacted the taxi industry. The Internet of things is not a disruptive innovation itself, but it will enhance technologies and are expected to be a part of the disruptive innovations. Some of the technologies that could become disruptive innovation are, robotics, A.I., Autonomous vehicles and more.

Virtual Reality is growing

Virtual Reality’s (VR) growth had decreased in 2018 and it may have seemed like VR may not be getting very mainstream, however, based on reports from Futuresource Consulting, VR is actually expected to reach 98.4 million sales by 2023, and VR will be sold and used across many regions and countries.

At the moment new VR products from companies such as Oculus Quest, and more is increasing the amount of interest people have in VR. Within the first two weeks, when the Oculus Quest released, they had already made 5 million dollars worth of sales. Other companies like Facebook are also getting involved and Facebook has made their own standalone headset and is estimated to sell more than a million units this year.

The game we saw in class, BeatSaber, that looked like this:

VR games like these, are really getting other people interested, and after checking steam, “We find that May 2019 was the first month on record to see more than 1 million monthly-connected headsets on the platform”. As we can see, VR is growing substantially and will continue to grow in the future.
