Development on Doom 4 was announced on May 7, 2008 by Id Software. The project had gone quiet until it was exposed by Kotaku that the project had been scraped and restarted because it didn’t live up to the standards Id Software, Bethesda, and Doom fans want. This was great news for fans because it means that the publishers are very committed to meeting the expectations of the franchise. However, it was embarrassing for the publishers because their mismanagement was exposed.

Yesterday (Feb 19th, 2014), Bethesda announced that the beta version would be available to those who pre-ordered Wolfenstein: The New Order. Click here for Gamespot’s article and video.  It has also been named ‘DOOM’ instead of it’s self proclaimed name ‘Doom 4’. As a fan I’m really excited to finally get a look at this game, but I’m concerned because of the failures the game experienced during development.
