Hello! My name is Brent, and I am a senior in computer science. I expect to graduate this May. Video games have always been one of my favorite pastimes for as long as I can remember. The three genres of video games I enjoy most are Japanese role-playing games, first-person shooter games, and survival horror games.
My favorite video game genre is Japanese role-playing games. My particular favorites are Final Fantasy XIII and Dragon Quest IX. I really enjoy these types of games because JRPGs usually have linear storylines. So, playing these games is like reading a good book, and I like reading books. These types of games also have leveling systems that often require the player to grind to level up, and I find that type of experience very rewarding, albeit time-consuming.
I also enjoy playing first-person shooter games. For example, I like the Call of Duty series and Counter Strike. I find these games really addicting due to the competitive nature of them. I will often play these games for a few days, get annoyed at losing multiple matches in a row, and then stop playing for a few days. However, I always seem to start playing these games a couple days later because I want to improve my skills and start winning matches. These games also feature team-based modes that are fun way to develop my ability to work in groups.
Lastly, I also like playing survival horror games. My favorite games from this genre are Resident Evil 4 and Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I like the horror aspect of these games because it always requires me to be ready to react to sudden events. I also like how survival horror games provide the player with very little resources and require good inventory management to survive.
