Dan Connor – Gaming Profile

My name is Dan Connor and I’m a senior in computer science. I’ve gone through many game systems throughout my childhood starting with Playstation 1 when I was around 6 or 7 years old. I then moved up to the PS2, N64, Gamecube, and Xbox 360.

I think the first game I ever bought was Driver 2 for PS1. I loved cars growing up and this was the closest I could get to driving one at the age of 7. The graphics blew my small mind at the time, and I quickly stocked up on more driving games like Need For Speed and several other strictly racing games. I liked the customization that the games would allow on the cars, as well as the races and plot lines.

Eventually, I got a Playstation 2 and got more games from various genres. The game that transitioned me from driving/racing to Action games was Driver 3. Looking back on it, Driver 3 was extremely similar to Grand Theft Auto, but it was less hyped and I could convince my parents that there were no guns (this was a blatant lie).  I remember frantically turning the volume down on my TV whenever there would be a scene with guns and shooting so that my parents wouldn’t hear it, although they quickly realized the mistake they had made. Anyway, I really enjoyed the mix of the great storyline and the adventure mode where you could just travel around the extensive map in any car you wanted. As I grew older, I got several of the Grand Theft Auto games like GTA San Andreas and GTA 4 for Xbox 360, and I never really lost the love for the Action game. Long after I had beaten the storyline of games like these, I could still spend hours just driving around the maps and causing mayhem, which is one feature that I can’t say about other game genres.

A third genre that I got into later on were shooter games. I can’t remember which Call of Duty I got first, but I was quickly hooked on the series and continued playing them until I went off to college. Call of Duty 4 and Battlefield 4 were two games that I specifically remember spending ridiculous amounts of time online playing with friends. Again, even after beating the campaigns, I could still come back to these games to play online and this is why I continued playing them. They also became extremely realistic with the graphics and effects which was another thing I liked. It never ceased to amaze me when a limb flew off of a zombie in Call of Duty World At War.

I pretty much stopped all gaming when I went off to college. I think most or all of my game systems were sold at one point or another unfortunately. This was for the best as I didn’t have much free time. 2 weeks ago, however, I was bored over break and bought Grand Theft Auto: Vice City on my computer, so I’m back at it.
