Game Summary

Crab Rangoon is a 2-D side scroller style game that was developed using Python and Pygame along with PIXILART to develop the artwork. The game is set on a beach in Guam. The main character, Arte, wakes up to find that all of his kitchen utensils have been stolen by robber crabs. The game takes you throughout the day starting at sunrise on a beach and ending on the same beach under the night sky. Arte must move through the levels defeating crabs by shooting them with balls of butter and defeating different boss crabs to retrieve his stolen kitchen utensils.

The scoring for the game is displayed in the upper left hand corner. The scoring system works by providing ten points for every crab that is defeated. Five bonus points are awarded for each bottle that is collected off the beach. The player can also lose five points by stepping in the sinkholes along the beach.

Trapped in Time: Final Submission

Introduction

Trapped in Time (stylized as Trapped in Time RL, or TiTRL for short) is a rogue-like dungeon crawler written in Python and tcod. It is a game designed and programmed by the members of Crywalker Farms. The final release for the course marks TiTRL’s transition from pre-alpha to alpha status. The game can be downloaded from the GitHub page.

Since the last article, there have been minimal conceptual changes to the game, with only minor technical changes in the implementation of the major game features. The team members have continued to learn new skills, despite some issues with GitHub. A final list of unmet goals was also drawn up for analysis and use in any future programming, comprised of goals that were either dropped from core requirements, or designed as optional “bonus” goals.

God of Oar – The Final Update

God of Oar is a single player, side-scrolling, RPG, beat-em-up style game set on the high seas. Players play as Bob the Pirate defending his treasure from a horde of lily-livered bilge rats that want a piece of the pie. Using his trusty oar, Bob must defeat the onslaught of enemies in order to keep the booty safe while keeping himself alive. Points are racked up based on how many enemies are defeated, and the game ends when either the treasure is breached or Bob gets himself killed. Go for that high score matey!

As a one level mini-game in its current stage, God of Oar is marketed towards quick and fun gameplay. This is ideal for the current wave of time killing mini-games that are flooding the online app stores. The game is currently only available for PC.

Earth TD Final

Synopsis:

Earth Tower Defense is a tower defense game where you try to defend the Earth from waves of alien invaders. Tower defense games are a shoot off of the real-time strategy genre where decision making, and strategy decide whether you win or lose. Like most RTS games, the game will be viewed from a top-down perspective. Enemies will follow a path from the top of the screen down to Earth. Towers can be placed in sections by the path but not on to it. For every enemy you kill, you will earn currency to build more towers to defend the Earth from increasingly difficult to kill waves of aliens. This will culminate in one or several boss waves to determine if your strategy was efficient enough for your survival. If an enemy reaches Earth, you will lose one life, and if a boss reaches Earth, you will lose the game. We will try to have a few unique towers to choose from that function differently from each other, such as a sniper and an area of effect tower. If time permits, we will incorporate some type of upgrade system where players will be able to increase the power of already constructed towers through either conjoined building or paying for upgrades.

Tech Support – Final Submission

TechSupport is a first-person shooter where the goal is to get the highest score before you run out of lives.

Synopsis

In TechSupport, the hero’s computer has been infected by malware. The only way for them to get their computer functioning again is to go into the computer and destroy the malware themselves using whatever means are at their disposal.

Project Z

Synopsis

Project Z is a mod created for the Zombies mode in Call of Duty: Black Ops III. The map is based on a CIA office building that is being overrun by zombies. The player, or players, start with a single weapon upon spawning inside of a locked room. The players must search the map in order to find ammo, new weapons, and key cards. The key cards can then be used to unlock other areas of the map, but the more areas that they unlock, the more places the zombies will have to spawn from and the more difficult it will be to keep the situation under control.

The players must use strategy and skill to gun down the zombies and work their way through all of the rooms, picking up multiple key cards and replenishing their ammo throughout. If the players manage to fight their way through all of the locked rooms, they are then able to unlock the CIA Garage Bay. Upon entering the Garage Bay, a mass hoard of zombies is released on the map. With dwindling supplies, the players must successfully kill off all of the remaining zombies to clear the CIA building and win the game.

Description

Kingdom Defense is a unique text-based strategy game. Kingdom Defense offers exciting, action-packed rounds, where the player must make wise choices to protect their kingdom and preserve peace. In between waves of ferocious attacks, the player must make decisions about how to strengthen their Kingdom. Throughout the game, the player will have options to build walls, train men, and search for gold. By trading, the economy of the kingdom can be controlled and optimized for the proper response to an attack.

The Revolution of Randy the Running Robot

Randy the Running Robot is an infinite running-style game that was created by Kenny Arentz, Nicholas D’agostino, Raymond E. Jones III, Tyler Martin, and Roger Salguero utilizing Unity software.

Randy the Running Robot is set in a dystopian future, where mutant indifferent green creatures (known as Stevies) chase innocent robots (known as Randys). As a Randy, the player seeks to outrun a Stevie all while evading flying missiles that plague the city.

Core Mechanics and Gameplay

The game starts with the player controlling a robot named Randy whose goal is to infinitely run away from an ever-chasing threat known as a Stevie while evading oncoming flying missiles. When first starting Randy the Running Robot, the player will notice that there are only two controls to learn in the game – [down arrow] to crouch-run and [up arrow] to jump and double jump. The player must use these controls evade the missiles and collect floating wrenches, which serve as “energy” for Randy to keep running away from the Stevie. If Randy goes too long without collecting a wrench, he will, unfortunately, slow down and get caught by the Stevie.

A score component was added to the game that is based on the distance Randy travels in-game, with the highest of these scores being saved as a “high score” and being displayed permanently on the “game over” screen.
