TED TALK

I enjoyed that I could choose what I wanted to talk about, and it was nice to be able to do a little bit more digging into the topic, especially since I was so passionate about it. I struggled a lot with memorization, like I’m sure quite a few people did. I was fairly confident when I was working by myself and actually writing, however when I got up to present I forgot a couple of things and had a pretty big pause in the middle. I think I still managed to get back on track but it was definitely difficult to remember everything I wanted to talk about without it in front of me. I thought my presentation flowed pretty well, we were the first group to go so I wasn’t exactly sure what other people were doing or how their presentations were structured, but I liked my subject and I think that made it easier to talk about and find interesting facts and things that I would remember. I also liked that my use of images was relevant to what I was talking about, since they served as a kind of reminder of what I was going to say next. I think my brain connects things very visually, which is why memorization can be hard for me, so it was very helpful to associate the pictures with what I was trying to say in order to remember. If I could change anything about my presentation, I would definitely give myself a little bit more time to memorize my script and get comfortable speaking in front of the audience. I think unfortunately it was pretty obvious that I was nervous, so if I could do it again I would definitely practice in front of more people. I also think that if I could do it again I would try to go to OneButton Studios before my presentation to kind of get a grasp on what it’s like, that way it isn’t a surprise when I get there and I get thrown off by the lights and fancy equipment. Overall, I think it went just fine, but I hope to improve in the future.
