English alum wins Association of Writers and Writing Programs award

Heather Myers, a 2016 Penn State Altoona English alumna, has won an award from the Association of Writers and Writing Programs (AWP) Intro Journals Project.

The Intro Journals Project is a literary competition for the discovery and publication of the best new works by students currently enrolled in AWP member programs. Program directors are invited to nominate students’ works, which are selected for publication in participating literary journals.

The poem, “Beyond Understanding” will be published in Puerto del Sol. Myers is currently enrolled in the MFA program in poetry at West Virginia University. She states, “I’m so grateful for the writing education and support given to me through the Penn State Altoona English program—I wouldn’t be where I am today or announcing this news without the guidance and encouragement from the English professors.”
