Altoona raises more than $53,000 for THON 2018

Penn State’s THON 2018 raised more than $10 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.

The $10,151,663.93 total was revealed at the close of the 46-hour, no-sitting, no-sleeping dance marathon held Feb. 16-18 in the Bryce Jordan Center at University Park. Altoona students raised $53,421.42 to rank third among Commonwealth campuses, behind Penn State Berks ($71,140.95) and Penn State Fayette ($67,861.61).

Penn State Altoona’s six dancers were Megan Greer, Kendra Physher, Kyle Bixby, Olivia Shearer and Katie Klimchock. In addition to the dancers, other Altoona Benefiting THON members worked tirelessly to raise funds for Four Diamonds, including executive board members Alexis Schumacher, Sami Bruno, Olivia Shearer and Ryan Crosby, and numerous THON captains.

THON, the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, raises money to cover the treatment costs for pediatric cancer patients as well as to support cancer research.

Since 1977, THON has raised more than $146 million for Four Diamonds at Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital.
