Community for Kids Golf Tournament

The Penn State Altoona Alumni Society and the Blair County Multidisciplinary Investigative Team (MDIT) hosted the second annual Community for Kids Golf Tournament Friday, August 12 at Sinking Valley Country Club in Altoona. Nearly $16,000 was raised to benefit the Blair County Child Advocacy Center, Penn State Altoona Alumni Society Scholarships, and Penn State Altoona Intercollegiate Athletics. Eighty golfers composed of community members and Penn State Altoona Alumni took part in the tournament, including former Nittany Lion football and NFL player Lydell Mitchell.

“For the second year in row, the Penn State Altoona Alumni Society answered our call to help end child abuse,” said First Assistant District Attorney Jackie Atherton Bernard. “The proceeds donated from the golf tournament will be part of seed money toward the establishment of a Child Advocacy Center here in Blair County to serve the diverse needs of the area’s children and positively impact the lives of children for generations to come.”

Added Tom Koehle, tournament chair, “Raising money to support young people in our community is truly special and we are pleased to support three very worthy causes. Our goal was to make this a ‘community’ event, and we are excited that so many people from the Penn State Altoona family and the greater community were involved.”
